Advantages: You get to hear the early Chili Peppers and see how they have progressed
Disadvantages: You can get about half the album as B-Sides in early singles

Out in LA is a good way to get a taste of what the early/original Chili Peppers were like. Its made up of a bunch of remixes, a few live tracks, early demos and unreleased tracks. The first 4 tracks are remixes of songs taken from their albums released in the 80s. ...Get Up and Jump, Out in LA, Green Heaven and Police Helicopter. They are all the same as the released tracks except done on a 4 track (or something). You also get a demo of Anthony's Sex Rap to follow. Blues for the Meister is next in line and is a song written and sung by Flea. Its a jazzy little number that is quite catchy,you also get some trumpet action in this one. The last remaining tracks are all quite short and are all of them fooling about. ... Read review

This album is a sister album to the 'What Hits' lp, and contains B-sides and demo versions of the chili peppers early work, up to before the release of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. It contians 19 tracks, Including 4 mixes, all of which are quite well done and in most cases sufficiently different to the original to merit thier inclusion, 3 live tracks, including Jimi Hendrix's Castles made of sand, and F.U. by Thelonious Monk. ...do in places differ from the recorded versions, and feature the original members playing. There are then 5 other 'demo's' which are little more than studio outtakes, but fun all the same. If you are a chili peppers fan and want to hear thier early music, i suggest you start here before buying a complete album, as this gives you a wide range of songs to listen to.
