Advantages: SImply Brilliant music Disadvantages: Slightly too short
..., then the middle section is quiet and downbeat, followed by a final frantic section with Brubeck at the helm. Though rather long at 6 minutes 44 seconds I would class this is an almost perfect piece of jazz music. By far and away the best track on the album!!!
2) STRANGE MEADOW LARK- A great comparison piece to the third, a great highlight of Brubeck's playing abilities. This is a much slower piece, less classical jazz you could say, but non the less hugely enjoyable. This is a more relaxed piece, no frantic chords appear here. This is a re-mastered CD and on this track you can really tell the difference. The sound is crystal clear.
3) TAKE FIVE: The quintessential Brubeck sound, featured on many a TV advert. This is an instantly recognisable track, and what propelled Brubeck into fame. The piece begins with a Paul Desmond solo, with Morello...

Advantages: Fantastic album, range of pieces Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit expensive for a 30 year old album
...'s not to say that it's a bad tune, just that the rest of the album is fantastic! I just feel it doesn't progress anywhere like the other tracks do.
10) Just A Giglo
The repeated notes here really are a reminder of the physical action of playing as the piano string resonates. Its small touches like this that bring Peterson's pieces to life and don't allow them to be simply jazz 'tracks' stuck on an LP from the 70s.

Oscar Peterson's 'Tracks' is as listenable now as it was when it was first released. Each track as something different to offer and its melodies are so delicious that even the uninitiated (such as myself) can appreciate them.
The CD is available for around £8 on Amazon at the moment which might sound quite a bit for a thirty year old recording, but the digital remastering means that it sounds new...

Advantages: Good quality British jazz, played with energy, style & originality Disadvantages: None I can find, apart from the CD's short length.
...I can hear y'all cry "ohhh, he's reviewing another Trunk release, Does he work for them or something?". Nah. It's just that some of their releases are to be had for fairly low prices at the moment, a 10th Anniversary offer or something, from some retailers.
Anyway, this is a very short, purely instrumental album (approx 23 minutes in length) recorded in 1964. a year before British jazz musician Michael Garrick's 'official' first album, The October Woman, came out. At the time, only 99 copies were made "for tax reasons" ( I believe Joe Meek did the same to one of his own albums, around that time, for the same reason). Whatever, it soon became as rare as hen's teeth, pristine copies eventually selling for hundreds of pound or more over the years. In the fullness of time, an unplayed copy fell into the hands of Jonny Trunk, who did a deal...
