Tracey Thorn is probably best known as one half of the duet, Everything but the Girl, but here on this album, "Out of the Woods", we see her leaving hubby, Ben Watt temporary aside and embarking on a solo project. This recording is her first solo Album for two and a half decades following on ... Read review

Advantages: Some Great Songs Disadvantages: A Couple Of Weaker Tracks
...in '63..." This song fades out with a sound reminiscent of a old scratched Vinyl Record. Every Song that this Album delivers has been produced by a different Producer and this is something that is very evident. Yet one Song leads comfortably into the next, despite such musical contrasts.
"Easy" starts with the just the sound of a Piano before the synthesizer sounds kick in. This track has been produced by Martin Wheeler to perfection and will please ... ...superb vocals are often drowned out by excessive drum beats. On "Out of the Woods" Tracey manages to deliver her crystal clear vocals on top of the electronic beats and they are never drowned out. Instead her voice just rides along over these beats.
I would best describe this Album as a collection of eleven intimate moments that was never intended to be anything else, other than an opportunity for Tracey Thorn to share her thoughts with anyone out ...

Advantages: Lovely Songs Disadvantages: Only 8 tracks and 23 minutes long
...A Distant Shore released back in 1982 was until a few weeks ago TraceyThorn's only solo Album. In March 2007 she released her second solo Album "Out of the Woods." Album Notes: A quarter of a century is a long time to take to release a second album, but that's how long it took Everything But the Girl's Tracy Thorn to issue her sophomore solo outing, 2007's OUT OF THE WOODS. Though not a radical departure from EBTG, the record distinguishes itself as a more dynamic showcase for the British singer's gently emotive voice, with tracks ranging from the giddy synth-pop of "It's All True" to the beautifully sullen "By Piccadilly Station I Sat Down and Wept."
Album Reviews: Spin (p.99) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[With] a folky acoustic ballad, some retro-techno dance pop, a handful of melody trip-hop lullabies, and one gorgeous, flute-kissed torch song."
