Out Of This World - Bobo Moreno & The Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band

...Every band needs a distinctive sound to make them stand out from the crowd and Chino Moreno's vocals do just that. Ranging from melodic to full blown broken glass in the throat, you can immediately tell that this is a deftones album. My favourite tracks are Elite and Passenger, although the whole album is excellent. This CD also contains a multimedia programme showing photographs, a small video etc. It's only of passing interest (i.e. you'll only view it once) and on my system it autostarts which is very irritating ! I also cannot recommend the other two albums, 'around the fur' and 'adrenaline' highly enough and this release continues the level of excellence set. Buy them all now.... Read review

...The Sacramento quintet; Deftones’ third album ‘White Pony’ is a masterful piece of work. It takes you on a dynamic and brutal 50-minute journey of emotions. Opener ‘Feiticeira’ is full of raging guitars and pounding drums, but with Chino Moreno’s mix of tender and angry vocals about being kidnapped. ‘Digital Bath’ takes on more of a softened approach but with a quiet/loud intensity between verse and chorus. Third song, ‘Elite’ won the band their Grammy for best metal performance and it’s their heaviest song on the album. Chino gives it his all with his raw screaming throughout the track. ‘RX Queen’ has the quieter intensity like ‘Digital Bath’ but full of atmosphere. Moreno sings of his girlfriend. ...working it out. The singer’s lyrics are, as ever, written to conjure vivid images in the listener’s mind, and are sung with great passion and conviction. He has an incredible singing voice and the ability, when singing, to change the mood and feel of the song with his singing at will; from haunting whisper (Pink Maggit, Knife Prty), through almost spoken parts (Teenager) and right up to screaming his heart out all the way through ‘Elite’. This comes as something of a shock after the calm of the preceding track, ‘Digital Bath’. The band line-up has remained unchanged apart from the new addition, but DJ Frank has worked with the Deftones on an unofficial basis for some time now, so there is no animosity.
