Advantages: Rocky, thrashy, energetic,b est of all their albums ever! Each song rocks more than the last! Disadvantages: None really, unless you dont like the genre of music.
So who hasn't got a fitted Topshop/Topman style Motorhead Tee nowadays? Hardly rock n roll to is it? I wonder how many of those guys actually listen to Motorhead? I doubt many which is a real shame because albums like this (Overkill) are a real jem amongst the crap rock that wont stand the test of time. The band are made up of Lemmy (bass and vocals), "Fast" Eddie Clarke (guitar), and "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drums) .
This is Motörhead's second album and it showed a massive progression for the band. The chnage paid off because fans consider this to be their best album (and they have had tons)-superceding the Ace of Spaces!
Vocals on this album are gruff and heavy and you really can pick Lemmy's voice out from millions of others. Shame that people only seem to know The Ace Of Spades as this band have produced so many other great ...
Advantages: It's another great Motorhead album Disadvantages: None
33 years on, and Motorhead are still playing what Lemmy calls 'rock'n'roll'. That it most certainly is, and there's no sign of these 3 middle aged erm... 'gentlemen' slowing down or compromising on their particular brand of rock music. This is another classic slab of modern day Motorhead, with this line up now having been togther almost 2 full decades they know exactly how to make a Motorhead record. Surprisingly this time out there are no full on ballads although there are the odd melodic moments... calm before the storm sort of thing. It's not their best album, but it is a good one. It doesn't outstay it's welcome - no filler here, just 11 songs and just shy of 40 minutes.
OK, the songs now.... track 1 is Runaround Man - pure rock'n'roll Motorhead style and a possible concert opener (I hope!)
Track 2 - Teach You How To Sing ...
Advantages: classic album from classic rock band Disadvantages: none!
This is the 3rd studio album by Motorhead (or 4th if you count the later released but earlier recorded 'On Parole' set.) It's the second release by the so called 'classic' line up of Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke and Phil Taylor. By this release the Motorhead sound was set, with Lemmy's thundering bass and growling vocals, Phil Taylor's manic and powerful drumming, and topped with Eddie Clarke's brilliant riffing and lead guitar work. All of which together made for a huge noise from just three band members. Loudest band in the world is what they were called back then, and that wasn't far from the truth if you were lucky enough to catch them live in those early days. So, what about the songs? This is a double cd digipak, so on cd 1 you get the original album, from the brilliant opener "Dead Men Tell No Tales" through to the final classic title ...

Album Notes
Motorhead: Lemmy Kilmister (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, bass); Phil Campbell (guitar); Mikkey Dee (drums). 1996's OVERNIGHT SENSATION, the second release from their new label, CMC, picked up exactly where 1995's SACRIFICE had left off. The band's finest recording since 1991's World War One themed 1916, OVERNIGHT SENSATION offers a smorgasbord of gritty sandpaper vocals from Lemmy, and their unique brand of chugalug guitar riffing. Highlights include the ballad "I Don't Believe a Word," as well as such rough and ready rockers as "Civil War," "Crazy Like a Fox," "Eat the Gun," "Love Can't Buy You Money," and the title track. With OVERNIGHT SENSATION, Motorhead continued to churn out inspired metal.
Album Reviews
Q (12/96, p.140) - 2 Stars (out of 5) - "...business as usual: full-throttle bass lines, earthquake drumming, daft lyrics....The current guitarist...is perhaps a little too fond of soft-metal frills, but the crux of the sound is still Lemmy's hoarse bark..."
