PCD - The Pussycat Dolls
Roll your eyes or--worse--invoke the Spice Girls all you want: Don't cha wish your

girlfriend was hot like any one of the members of this revolving collective? Dissing the Pussycat Dolls is like denying you want a peek at the Victoria's Secret runway show--a foolhardy stance nobody's going to believe anyway. Never mind, for a moment, the semi-lewd pleasures of the disc's visuals (midriffs galore!): the pop on parade by this gang of writhers and eyelash-batters isn't bad. Nicole Scherzinger, a former member of the failed prefab teen pop act Eden's Crush, brings it with determination and carefully distributed shots of sweetness. More important, she gets high-wattage help. Busta Rhymes, Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am, and Timbaland all step in to dress up the Dolls' sound, and the songwriters' and producers behind PCD clearly know how to sexify a disc without sinking it into the gutter. What's best about the Dolls' debut, though, is its shamelessness. This is manufactured friskiness that doesn't take itself seriously; these girls don't want a Grammy, they only want to pounce. --Tammy La Gorce
Advantages: Lots of great songs! Disadvantages: Quite a few covers
...This is one of my favourite albums, I love almost every song. The PussycatDolls are an American girl group mostly known for their dance routines and their pop and R'n'B songs.
1) Don't Cha - This was the girls first single which was hugely popular, it is instantly recognisable from the lyrics 'Doncha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?' I didn't like this song as first, but it soon grew on me.
2) Beep - I prefer this song to Don't Cha. This song features Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas. The beat of the song is irritatingly catchy! This song was also a single.
3) Wait A Minute - This is one of my least faves on the album. It has recently been released as a single.
4) Stickwitu - This is definitely one of my favourites on the album. This is a ballad and was the second single from the album. This song shows how...

Advantages: Some good pop-R 'n' B songs Disadvantages: The cover versions don't match the quality of the original tracks
...The PussycatDolls are really the ultimate in manufactured pop acts, although the way they've been manufactured is slightly different. Rather than finding a name for a group and fitting people in with that name or picking people on a TV show and then moulding them into a group, with The PussycatDolls the name came first. They started with the name, famous in the US since the mid 1990s as a group of women who frequently performed at the Viper Rooms in Los Angeles, a club owned by Johnny Depp.
Even before the name was used for a pop act, they were already famous, having from time to time contained some of America's greatest singers and actors, even if only for one performance. Could the girls selected for the pop group of the same name be as good or become as famous as those in the club act?
The album opens with the UK Number 1...
