I'm a female music junkie with very eclectic tastes.
I also love reading, especially biographies and contemporary novels. The book I identify with the most is Nick Hornby "High fidelity". I live on a lightship and life afloat is great!

After 4 years without a new album and a couple of mind-blowing DJ sets on the beach, Fatboy Slim returns with "Palookaville" in 2004. No need to introduce the man himself... Mr Norman Cook has a portfolio longer than Inspector Gadget's arms: former Housemartins and Dub International band member, House/Big Beat legend under various nicknames (Mighty Dub Katz, Fatboy Slim etc...) and famous remixer who helped Cornershop shoot to fame with "Brimful of Asha".
"Palookaville" isn't the expected Dance album a lot of fans awaited. It is certainly Fatboy Slim's most personal and autobiographical one to date. It's a very nice mixture of Rock, Pop and Electronic music.
The opening track "Don't let the man..." is probably the closest song you'll get to "vintage" Fatboy Slim. It is quite similar to "Praise you".
"Slash Dot Dash" is an energetic Punkish number with a guitar sample reminiscent of the Dead Kennedys combined with an unforgivable vocal sample.
"Wonderful night" features Hip Hop artist Lateef who delivers cheeky lyrics over a cool jazzy tune.
"Long way from home" was the music used for a well-known mobile phone advert (I let you find out which one as I don't want to advertise!). This version has added vocals and guitars by Punk Rock band Jonny Quality. It's actually my favourite song on "Palookaville", I find it quite elevating!
"Put it back together" was cowritten with and sang by Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). Legend has it it was written during a drunken night. It's a song about putting a broken couple back together. It is quite a touching little ballad, it reminds me of Blur "Tender".
"Mi Bebe Masoquista" brings the tempo back up with electronic sounds and distorted samples. It's uplifting and hypnotic.
"Push and shove" was written with Justin Robertson (Lionrock) who also provides the vocals. It's a downtempo love song with some uplifting parts. I wasn't too keen at first but it certainly grows on you!
"North West Three" is a nice lounge track . It combines electronic beats and cool jazzy samples.
"The journey" features another guest appearance from Lateef. It's a mellow Hip Hop song that gently flows.
"Jin Go Lo Ba" is the big House track most fans were hoping for! It uses a sample from the famous "Jingolaba" by Olatunji. Think Samba, Brazil and Fatboy Slim's trademark club sound!
"Song for Chesh" is a slow "Big Beat" tune loaded with samples in the crafty way only Mr Norman Cook can! Perfect background for afterparties!
"The Joker" is a clever cover version of the Steve Miller Band song. It features vocals from Bootsy Collins. A great sing-along track that will make everyone smile (especially when you realize some of the lyrics have been altered!).
All in all, "Palookaville" IS like a box of chocolates ... It's full of different flavours and everyone is bound to hear something they like in this album. A great present for somebody with eclectic tastes who doesn't mind a little bit of House music here and there.
