debut album, These Streets. It's not just his careworn, smooth-as-sandpaper voice, either (although, admittedly, it does help). It's more to do with the maturity of the lyrics, and the casual soulfulness of his delivery. "Last Request" is more the work of a vintage Motown singer than a teenager from Paisley, and it's to Nutini's credit that he carries it off with aplomb. And rather like the soul singers of previous generations, he manages to sing without a hint of hypocrisy about his own sexual exploits ("Jenny Don't Be Hasty") while also questioning his girlfriend's fidelity ("Alloway Grove"). It's the fact that he's so frank, and even a little bit naive, that he manages to get away with it. And though the stripped-down tunes on These Streets don't always immediately grab the listener (the title track, in particular), the songs where Nutini is accompanied by a full band often manage to evoke sunny-day American soul ("New Shoes", for example). This is a strong debut, and considering Paolo Nutini's tender years, bigger things can be expected of him in the future. --Ted Kord

Advantages: Something for everyone. Disadvantages: Loses its way slightly in the middle.
Every once in a while a track is played on the radio that instantly makes you want to know more about the artist. This is what happened to me with Paolo Nutini's first released track 'Last Request'

After some research on this 19 year old singer/songwriter from Paisley Scotland I went out and bought his first album 'These Streets' as soon as it was released.
I was not disappointed. Something for everyone, a mixture of soul, jazz, acoustica, blues and folk. All wrapped up in a rich, raspy, unique voice but with definite undertones of a Van Morrison or a Rod Stewart. Lyrically genius, if you like artists such as James Blunt, Damien Rice and David Gray then this is right up your street.
Good value for money album, 10 tracks bought for just under £8,
1. Jenny don't be hasty. A good rocky upbeat opener. True life experience of lying about his age to an older girlfriend. Can't help tapping your feet to this.
2. Last request. Classic. Beautiful lyrics. Meltingly gorgeous voice. Play at full volume and weep while reminiscing over unrequited love. His vocal talent at best. Definitely mature beyond his young years.
3. Rewind. Quite a depressing song. Still good but my least favourite which annoys me as it is the one that I can't get out of my head.
4. Million faces Relaxing. Along same vain as Last request and loving you. But not as enjoyable.
5.These streets Brilliant. Lyrics are fab, all about his moving to London. His unique accent comes through on this, one of the strongest tracks on the album.
6. New shoes Bluesy and upbeat, I think a good follow on to 'these streets' all about a change of lifestyle. Lyrically great, think this one should definitely be released as a single.
7. White lies. Haunting, good strong track. Shows off his vocal talent.
8. Loving you. My favourite. You can't help but sing. Can see people dedicating this to loved ones.
9. Autumn. Heartbreaking. Vocally mesmerising his accent really comes through again. Dedicated to his Grandfather. Another classic.
10. Alloway Grove. A long and difficult track. I like it though so give it time. Starts off quite folksy the first part almost reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel. Then winds down. Give it a go. Extra bonus at the end of this, Last request again but just Paolo's gorgeous lilt and a piano. Divine.
All in all a belter of a debut album with a song to suit every mood. Mature beyond his years lyrically and vocally. People have already stereotyped him into another boring, depressing singer/songwriter. But give him a go, his talent on this album shows he does not deserve that tag. I believe he will be around for many years to come and if his future material is as good as this then he definitely deserves to be.
Advantages: Amazing new talent Disadvantages: none
...Scotland's hottest talents, the album These Streets is a gem. Paolo has an Italian father, hense the name and the looks and a Glaswegian Mum, which explains the accent you can pick up in his songs. His influences are David Bowie, Damien Rice, Oasis, Beatles, U2, Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac, which should give you an idea of what a treat your in for. I downloaded the album These Streets and choose the £10.99 version, getting me an additional 4 tracks, ... ...Rewind

Advantages: Good quality of tracks Disadvantages: only 10 songs
Many people will have heard the single 'Last Request' and the subsequent hype that surrounded this new, 19 year old singing sensation. The album was released with much interest, however is it any good?
1. Jenny Don't Be Hasty
The opening song to the album is a nice introduction and sets a tone for the rest of the album. It is an up-tempo song dealing with loss as the girl in question breaks up with him when finding out his true age. A good start ... ...the album is an excellent slow, bittersweet song that will be come a favourite for depressed lovers everywhere. It really is a nice song despite it's subject matter and probably the best on the album.
3. Rewind
On albums such as this the song after the big hit is always important to stop you simply going back. This is true here and rewind is one of my favourite songs. Again dealing with loss after a one night stand, however done with a fair bit ...

i believe paolo nutini is a young man with a lot of talent. His songs are easy to listen to and i enjoy singing along. His music is totally original with nothing else like it in the charts right now. His music and songwriting are totally outstanding and i believe he will have a huge effect in the music market.
He has a huge fanbase ranging from young people right through to older men and women. Ive also met him and i thought he was a bewildered ...

Advantages: Great songs, not the same as most music out at the moment Disadvantages: Not enough songs, only 10 songs
As a first album goes I think this one is a superb attempt. Paolo has a great voice and every now and then he lets his Scottish accent creep in to his singing, which is not a bad thing. It has both quick paced, upbeat songs and slow songs. I think that the song Last Request is the best on the album, and the live version that is at the end of the track Alloway Grove is exceptional. In my opinion there is not a bad song on the album although some aren't as strong as others. Rewind, Last Request and Jenny Don't Be Hasty were definitely good choices to release from the album as singles. I think it is a definite buy for those who like something a bit different. Paolo is an excellent young singer songwriter with many influences which can be heard on the album. ...
Advantages: Sing-a-long, soulful melodies Disadvantages: A little negative in places
PaoloNutini is a fresh new voice sounding out the UK's airwaves with his first album 'TheseStreets'. TheseStreets is a album with strong lyrics, the kind of lyrics you would expect from an 20 year-old lad from Paisley, Scotland.
'TheseStreets' has had 3 singles brought out in the singles chart. 'TheseStreets' is described by Nutini as "an autobiography of the last three years" and he talks of his move from Scotland to the centre of London in the 5th song on the album 'TheseStreets' from where the album title originates.
'Jenny Don't Be Hasty' is probably his most recognised single with a catchy tune and some deep lyrics which are possibly directed at his girlfriend Teri.
'Rewind' and 'Last Request' are two of his more downbeat songs, technically very sound, again with choruses that you will find yourself singing in ...
