Advantages: Good story, heartwarming Disadvantages: A little run of the mill
with the reindeers got laughs, in particular, those scenes involving Comet (a rather irksome creature that grunts and farts) and Chet the antlered newcomer to the reindeer set up.
To be honest, this film hasn't really got any one strong message rarely managing to get above the surface of children's entertainment. The script looks to cement the already overcrowded market of telling folks that Christmas is a time for giving, re-enforcing the concept of the perpetual Santa laughing merrily and dispensing joy wherever he goes.
SantaClaus 2 won't go down as a classic but it's harmless fun for that time of year and a pleasant enough distraction for those with kids. Watch it with that in mind and you won't go far wrong.

Advantages: Gavin Lee Disadvantages: Uninspired music and lyrics
Pastiche, the imitation of a literary or musical style for (generally) comic purposes, can be a wonderful thing. The songs of Tom Lehrer and the musical The Boyfriend spring to mind as great examples. Unfortunately, not all pastiche is good pastiche, and 'A Saint She Ain't' certainly ain't good pastiche. But it's not much fun, when it comes down to it.
Music is by Denis King, lyrics by Dick Vosburgh and the cast of eight features Barry Cryer and Gavin Lee (who went on to create the stage version of Bert in Mary Poppins ...
Advantages: Superb acting, beautifully filmed Disadvantages: Some will find it deeply depressing
hyped up to the hilt like this one. More often than not, I'm disappointed because they don't live up to expectations. Finally, however, I succumbed to the draw of No Country for Old Men, simply because it sounds like exactly the sort of film I would enjoy. The fact that it is directed and written by the Coen brothers is neither here nor there for me - I have loved some of their films, particularly Fargo and The Big Lebowski, but hated others, such as Intolerable Cruelty and O Brother, Where Art Thou? Then again, knowing that the story is based on a book by Cormac McCarthy did give me more than a glimmer of hope.
I've heard so many great things about Javier Bardem's performance as Anton Chigurh in this film. I have seen Bardem act before, although only in Spanish language films (including the brilliant Jamon Jamon), so was initially taken ...
