There may be expressions used in the lyrics that may be faul of nature, or considered unsuited for minors, however, these are the artists texts and feelings, and I bare no responsibility for what they say, and I do not have the right to edit theire lyrics, which I have not and will not :)
One more thing, I am much more critic of a band I love, and I am not too familiar with this band, so I rated slightly more loose. ------- Introduction--------
Yellowcard is considered to be a 'Alternative Rock' band, but I do not believe in tagging, and I recommend you do not take this tag too serious either. Yellowcard is currently signed with Capitol Records. The release of this album ( which is theire fifth ) was on the 17th of July 2007, almost 18 months after the release of the previous album. I will review the tracks, and let you decide for yourself whether it was worth the wait or not. Sidenote, I will rate in a new way, which looks like this: ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics ?/10 ( how well the lyrics are ) Instruments ?/10 ( how well the instruments sound ) vocals ?/10 ( how well sung the song is ) blending ?/10 ( how well the lyrics, instruments, and vocals are together ) >- Track -< ?/10 ( the average of the Lyrics, Instruments, Vocals and Blending rating ) ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
----------------The Tracks-------------
Track 1: The Takedown With a new album new expectations rise, so the first track is important, to give an impression of theire new views or style, and to make you want to listen the entire CD.
The intro rocks to be completly honest, and when the dust settles they start to
sing, he sings something and then a other bandmember follows up, not original, but more important, it is NOT annoying. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 6/10 Instruments 8/10 vocals 7/10 blending 6/10
>- Track -< ~6.5~ ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
Track 2: Fighting Again, love the short intro, and the singing comes in nicely, and is quite enjoyable on itself, and the chorus is catchy, but not too easy. The lyrics are reasonable "I said I'm okay, but I know how to lie You were all that I had You were delicate and hard to find Got lost in the back of my mind" ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 7/10 Instruments 8/10 vocals 8/10 blending 7/10
Track 3: Shrink The World Singing intro, and then some quite enjoyable guitar bashing, however, the lyrics are too cheesy in my eyes, and to much a compilation of theire previous lyrics.and the music does not go well with the cheesy lyrics. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 5/10 Instruments 8/10 vocals 7/10 blending 4/10
>- Track -< ~6.0~ ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
Track 4: Keeper Slowish instrumental intro, and I love it! The singing comes in and with that the intro dies, but it does not annoy, which is impressive. The lyrics are also fun, slight changes: "I should have told you everything I never gave you anything I should have told you everything If I could give you anything Then I would tell you everything" ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 7/10 Instruments 9/10 vocals 7/10 blending 9/10
Track 5: Light Up The Sky Singing intro with a backing up drum and a happy guitar, but he stretches too many tones, and when he says: "Let me tell you why I would die for you" You do not believe him for one second, which is NOT good if you have lyrics like that. Too repeatative, which costs points on the blending rating, because the rest does not feel THAT repeating ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 4/10 Instruments 7/10 vocals 6/10 blending 5/10
>- Track -< ~5.5~ ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
Track 6: Shadows And Regrets Somehow the singing intro does not tick me off, and the swelling music in the back, the support, the abrupt but not too abrupt music joining in makes this for some reason a quite enjoyable song to me, and the fact they have the balls to put this on the album does good in my books. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 6/10 Instruments 10/10 *cough* VIOLIN ^^ *cough* vocals 9/10 blending 9/10
Track 7: Five Becomes Four OMG! I am not kidding, the intro makes any further listening unneeded, it will not affect the rating. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 9/10 Instruments 10/10 VIOLIN! vocals 9/10 blending 10/10
>- Track -< ~9.5~ ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
Track 8: afraid After track 7 not impressive anyway, even though I can sometimes hear the violin screetch through, blending is alright though ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 7/10 Instruments 7/10 vocals 7/10 blending 7/10
Track 9: Dateline Too much a remix of theire old tricks, but shouts that shake my bones, especially since they are unexpected, and you can feel he actually feels something when he sings it, and the drums, OH YEAH! ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 7/10 Instruments 8/10 vocals 10/10 blending 7/10
>- Track -< ~8.0~ ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
Track 10: Dear Bobbie Voice in the intro throws me off, and no singing God can make up for it. However, the piano and guitars rock. Lyrics are quite good, and fit in well with the music, all in all a good track. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 8/10 Instruments 9/10 VIOLIN! vocals 6/10 blending 9/10
Track 11: You And Me And One Spotlight Slow intro, sung, doesn't really do much, it feels like something is going to burst, but no :( the singing and the guitar are nice though. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 7/10 Instruments 8/10 vocals 8/10 blending 7/10
>- Track -< ~7.5~ ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
Track 12: Cut Me, Mick InMe-like intro, I LOVE IT, the lyrics are reasonable, its mixxed well, and blended well, all in all a very enjoyable track. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 9/10 Instruments 10/10 vocals 8/10 blending 9/10
Track 13: Paper Walls Great use of the violin and other instruments, the singing is great, with the music and vocals you will sing any lyrics along, so that is well good :) Titlecarrier, as last song on the album, takes guts, and I love every second of this songs. ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~ Lyrics 10/10 Instruments 10/10 vocals 10/10 blending 10/10
>- Track -< ~10!~ THATS RIGHT! ~!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!~
---------- The Conclusion ^^ --------- Best track: Track 13 ( Paper Walls ) with a 10/10 Worst track: Track 05 ( Light up t..) with a 5/10
TOTAL LYRICS ~~~~~~~~ 92/130 ~ 7.1/10 TOTAL INSTRUMENTS ~ 112/130 ~ 8.6/10 TOTAL VOCALS ~~~~~~~ 102/130 ~ 7.9/10 TOTAL BLENDING ~~~~~ 99/130 ~ 7.6/10
Albumart is cool, deserves mentioning :) It looks like a street from helicopterview, with paper houses that seem to shine from inside, and the used fonts are great.
I know about 8 songs of them from theire previous 4 CDS, and based on this knowledge, I find this album much better then how they were, DEFINATLY worth buying, and you can get it for under 10 pounds, which is not much for this CD.
