Parachute - Pretty Things (The)

Advantages: the singles, past present and future.
Disadvantages: the slower tracks - mediocre I'm afraid

...Coldplay have undergone quite a lot of stick for being nothing more than a younger Travis. Having heard Parachutes its clear they are a better band, with a better songwriter. They are capable of tackling melancholy issues, in the same way that Travis do, but, unlike their peers, they don't sound dull or dreary. Opener 'Don't Panic' is beautiful, reminiscent of 'Unforgettable Fire' era U2 - its only downfall is that it's too short. Former single 'Shiver' is the closest thing Coldplay get to urgency, but that's not the raison d'etre of 'Parachutes' - it's a primarily downtempo album, but I feel that that lets them down - especially considering how great 'Shiver' is.... Advantages: Great vocals coupled with great lyrics. "Yellow", "shiver", and "trouble" steal the show
Disadvantages: The only complaint is that it's over too soon.

...Coldplay have managed to crack the secret of success in their debut album, "Parachutes". And as the title indicates, it is truly and exhilirating experience. Why? Well, i'll tell you why. They write simple words, couple them with simple yet inspiring music, and then they perform. A Group of guys who do it for one thing... and one thing only... for the love of music. This CD in due time will be recognized as one of the best in its genre, for such pure untainted talent deserves to be at the forefront of its competitors. So one more piece of advice, go out and buy it. You will not be disappointed.... Read review

...coldplay are the next big thing and parachutes is one of the best debut albums i have heard in years. Any music lover should have this in there cd collection . The tracks are supurb and i can honestly say there is not one track i dislike . It has everything , the lyrics are brilliant and the music is perfect for any occasion. I seen coldplay live recently and i have too say they were fantastic, so if you get a chance go and see them before they get really big , i can see them going the same direction as the maniacs and radiohead this album is a must have .
