Advantages: It got me an A in Higher English Disadvantages: I spent a year reviewing it!
“A Passageto India” by E.M Forster, is a novel set at the end of the British Raj over India. Set in the fictional city of Chandrapore, Forster clearly explores the problems with the British bureaucracy ruling a country they knew very little about. Despite being based on the poem “A Passageto India” by Walt Whitman, Forster contrasts every theory explored in this poem. While the Suez Canal was an act of blending two cultures together Forster depicts the lack of connection between the two races. As a result prejudice and interaction between the East and West become prevailing themes.
Adela Quested has come to India to meet her possible future husband, Ronny Heaslop – who is the city magistrate of this fictional city. Mrs Moore too has accompanied her, being Ronny’s mother. When they arrive they are ardent to see the “real” India ...
Advantages: good hotel to stay in Disadvantages: none
Me, my husband and our two little girls have just spent three nights staying at the Passage House Hotel, which is in Kingsteignton a few miles from the coastal resort of Teignmouth. This is the third time we have stayed at the hotel, and each time has been a very good stay. I am not going to attempt to describe everything about the hotel - only the facilities we used and how we found them! One thing I would say is that although this hotel is in a holiday area, it is just as much geared towards business people as it is towards holiday makers but the two seem to mix in very well. Also, I wouldn't say that the hotel is really geared towards children, although having said that, my four year old and two year old were made to feel very welcome.

I hate packing. I hate it with a passion beyond all logic. Despite packing my bags to go away from home every week, I still am rubbish at it.
So try to imagine a knock on your door. You go to answer and find a policeman with a gun who tells you that you have just 30 minutes to pack your things, leave your home, say goodbye to your friends and neighbours and leave - possibly to never return. You can only take what you can carry.
It's a nightmare isn't it? But for millions of people 60 years ago it was a harsh reality and the start of either a new life, or a quick route to death and damnation. I'm talking about the Partition of India - the topic of 'The Trainto Pakistan' which is one of the finest books I've read in a long time.
