Review of Pavarotti And Friends (For War Child) - Various Artists by BabsS

Advantages: artists in unfamiliar surroundings
Disadvantages: nothing

...It was in 1996. The maestro Pavarotti called and the artists came to Modena. There, the star-tenor arranged a concert for the benefit of his foundation 'Warchild', which takes care of children in war zones like Bosnia (in 1996). This CD is a coverage of the concert in Modena and the players list looks like a who is who of music: 1. Holy Mother (Eric Clapton, Luciano Pavarotti) 2. Saint Teresa (Joan Osborn) 3. I guess that's why they call it the Blues (Elton John) 4. New York, New York (Liza Minelli, Luciano Pavarotti) 5. My love (Zucchero) 6. Run, baby run (Sheryl Crow) 7. Certe notti (Ligabue, Luciano Pavarotti) 8. Angel (Jon Secada) 9. Ave Maria (The Kelly Family, Luciano Pavarotti) 10. Spirito (Litfiba) 11. Third degree (Eric Clapton) 12. La ci darem la mano (Sheryl Crow(!!!), Luciano Pavarotti) 13. Le ragazze fanno... Read review

The Essential Pavarotti
Review of Essential Pavarotti by chriscowper

Advantages: Great operatic album
Disadvantages: none

...This is in my opinion one of Luciano Pavarotti's greatest albums ever! The great tenor at his best singing classics such as O Sole Mio, Nessun Dorma, La Danza, Vesti la guibba, Rigoletto la Donna é mobile and many more. This album is truely astonishing from argueably the greatest tenor that ever lived. The passion in the songs that Pavarotti sings in this album are amazing, it will sweep you off your feet and throw you into complete perfection. Unfortunately as you may have heard Luciano Pavarotti died on September 6th 2007 which makes this album a tribute to the great tenor and his life long work as an operatic legend. Luciano Pavarotti was one of the most renowned people wordwide and this album presents some of his best work and you should buy this amazing album in honour of the greatest operatic legend that ever lived!... A fiasco. Time will judge.
Review of Verdi: Traviata (La) by falstaff88

Advantages: Superb singing
Disadvantages: Hard to find

...When Verdi's immortal opera La Traviata premiered in March 1853 at the Fenice, Venice, it proved a disaster. Verdi was philosophical about the outcome. "Was it the singers' fault, or mine"? he wrote to his friend Emanuele Muzio. Perhaps there was good reason for the audience to pan the performance. Firstly, they objected to the modern costuming - the play on which the opera was based took place some 150 years earlier - but the costumes were contemporary. Then later, in Act 111, when Violetta was dying of consumption and was given merely a few hours to live, the audience erupted into an outburst of laughter. This was due to the fact that opening night prima donna, Signora Salvini-Donatelli, who was rather kindly referred to as 'troppo properosa' - or significantly overweight - did little to add real credibility to the tragedy...
