Whenever I am in a really lousy mood or have just suffered a bad day I put Sam Cooke: The Man and His Music into my CD player and let this gifted and truly remarkable singer/songwriter have his melodic way with me. Sam Cooke was trully one of the leading and groundbreaking artists in the music industry. It is his music that leaves the most impression, however, truly proving that music, its construction from being written to being sung, is one of the most divine artforms on this sad little planet. Sam Cooke was nothing less than a genius. Not only did he create the difinitive versions of any song he wrote but also turned his gift to the works of others, making them his own. There's no Fuss over Sam's Town

Advantages: superb songs, lyrics and vocals
Disadvantages: takes a few listens

Here it was. The long anticipated second album after the world wide smash of their debut album, Hot Fuss. Released in the UK in October 2006 on the Lizard King label the critics were sharpening their knives in anticipation due to Brandon Flowers, the lead singer, describing the album as "one of the best albums in the past twenty years" and that it would be "the album that keeps rock & roll afloat." The amazing success of Hot Fuss, hype surrounding the second album release and claims of grandeur by Flowers made for a heady mix of both excitement and trepidation when Sam's Town was released.
