Peel certainly had taste as the Delgados are delectable

Advantages: it's the Delgados
Disadvantages: May not be easy to find. its the Delgados so will never be a million seller

The late great John Peel (RIP) certainly had a really good taste in music. As well as nominating Teenage Kicks by the Undertones as his favourtie song ever (it's high up in my top ten) he championed one of my favorurite bands the Delgados (also RIP since they split up in 2005). During a ten year period they recorded no less than seven sessions comprising of twenty nine tracks in total for John Peel's late night show on Radio 1. These sessions have been compiled into a comprehensive double CD. I doubt the Delgados will ever have a best of (and certainly not a greatest hits as this criminally underacted, wonderful band never dented the top 40. Thus in an absence of a best of this is the nearest thing to a comprehensive retrospective of their career. Mental Session

Advantages: Tense, Atmospheric Thriller
Disadvantages: Hardly upbeat! (Is a positive for some!)

Now i'll turn my hand to a little video nasty! Hardly but a little more of a creepy one than I usually review. So what's it all about? ------------------------------- 'Session 9' is a film made in 2001 and is directed by Brad Anderson (The machinist). The film is a psychological thriller set around Danvers State Mental Hopsital and is focussed on a team of asbestos removal specialists who are somewhat obstructed in the path of completing their work by a few odd occurances in the old Hospital. The team are given a strict deadline that their leaders Gordon (Peter Mullan) and Phil (David Caruso) are in disagreement over the realism of the goal. Gordon is going through some personal turmoil and seems determined to take his mind off of this by getting his team working extremely hard. A subplot to the group dynamic is that Phil ...

Review of Session 9 (DVD)

This CD can be played anyday not just on Saturday

Advantages: some wonderful and uniqu interpretations of older songs
Disadvantages: Mika, excellent as a single CD with the creme dela creme of the tracks

Various Artist. He is very prolific isn't he? Wandering through the racks of CDs in any record shop you will find a ton of compilations on any theme possible. Lets take a look,Ultimate banging Thrash Handbag House 2008, the Best Summer Anthems by Dutch People 4, 5000 60s Hits your dad owns bu would make a great gift for his birthday and the ubiquitous Now that's what I cal Music infinite. I do not tend to buy these compilations, as I tend to already have the songs I like om them whilst there is always a few tracks you can not stand and the ones at the end have a very tenuous link to the compilation theme as a whole. However I do buy the occasional compilation if it has something unique to offer such as live tracks.
