I got this CD when it was released thinking it would be better than the first album. However, after I listened to the CD all the way through I released that the first album was much better than this one!
The first problem with it can be spotted just by looking at the track listing. There are too many covers! Maybe one or two, but there's four! (there may be more, but only four tracks I recognise). Now, I'm not saying everyone who does a cover produces something worse than the original but in this case it just doesn't work. "Sk8tr Boi" and "Just Like A Pill" don't work in the trance genre. They lose their feeling and the meaning of the songs are lost. Natalie Horler isn't a rock chick so for her to go and sing a rock-ish type song is not the best of ideas. Her voice is great, but it's too feminine for hardcore songs.
The other problem is that all the songs have the same intro. They all have this "sparkle" sound effect and then the lyrics fade in. They needed a variety of styles on this CD, and unfortunately they didn't meet that target.
On the other hand, this still has a few upbeat songs (not as much as the first) that you can dance to at a party. They have a ballad on there, which separates the album a bit from the rest of the songs. I wish they'd released the European version of the album with the US tracks (Faded, Holiday and Dream On Dreamer) on it because they were quite good (although two of them were covers). You can get hold of those songs though so it isn't such a big deal.
I'm a big fan of Cascada and this review might seem like I've been harsh on them. I've been honest and i will say that I don't like this album as much as the other two, but I'd still listen to it. I wouldn't have paid £10 for this though, maybe £6-£8 because it isn't fantastic, it's average. There were other trance/electronic artists releasing their albums at the same time and to be honest I would have paid more for theirs.
I think Cascada learnt their lesson from this and their 3rd album seems to be a huge hit! I'd like to congratulate them on turning it around and producing some great music!
