Just not made for these times? Then this four-disc monument to the most innocent, ... more
blissfully melodic, California-dreamin' album of the rock era beats Prozac hands down. A staggering labour of love on the part of executive project director Phil Sandhaus and his fellow disciples, this lets us ponder the sine qua non of Brian Wilson's career from every imaginable angle--stereo, mono, instrumental and celestial vocals-only versions included. It's way too much of a good thing, but any album that can profoundly influence such disparate talents as Paul McCartney, XTC's Andy Partrige and ex-Pixie FrankBlack warrants microscopic analysis. Our advice: don't worry baby, just drift away on a Brian Wilson fantasia from an epoch when the drugs still worked and before the delirium tremors set in. --Jeff Bateman

This was pretty much the only occasion on which Brian Wilson managed to articulate his ... more
extraordinary musical vision over the length of an album. As such, Pet Sounds is not merely one of the greatest records ever made, but also one of the towering masterpieces of 20th-century art. Every song here, from the exuberant introduction of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to the concluding, wistful lament of "Caroline No", is definitive pop music. Wilson's fantastical orchestrations and harmonies support a collection of lyrics which are childishly innocent almost to the point of appearing sinister--no album has ever started with a less traditionally rock & roll sentiment than "Wouldn't it be nice if we were married?". When delivered in Wilson's anguished whine, the effect is gloriously heartbreaking--as statements of naked vulnerability go, "I Know There's An Answer" and "I Just \ Wasn't Made For These Times" remain difficult to top. Popular legend has it that when the fiercely insecure and competitive Wilson, a year on from Pet Sounds, heard the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, he was devastated. He needn't have worried. Pet Sounds wasn't trumped then, and it won't be anytime in the future.--Andrew Mueller

Advantages: Classic Bond moments in first half of the film. Disadvantages: Gadgets ruin the film, as does John Cleese as Q.
Madonna who sang the title song of the film has been given a cameo part. Her scene is completely under lit and leaves her looking rather butch. By the way the title song is not one of the memorable ones in the series and can be quite annoying after hearing it a few times.
Released in 2002, the film marked the 40thAnniversary of the franchise. The Gun Barrel sequence was adjusted slightly, a number of reference to all previous films were made throughout the film itself, the most obvious one being in the scene with the new Q where a whole scope of gadgets from previous adventures are seen. , and the use of the Aston Martin made a welcome and long overdue return to the screen as Bond's car of choice as the BMW's were not used in the film at all. The Aston Martin is put to much more use than previous film as Bond uses the car throughout ...
that is mentioned more than any other film. This is, Walt Disney's - Mary Poppins.
Imagine my surprise when having not seen this classic creation for about 10 years when my boyfriend gave me a little surprise? the DVD - 2 Disc, 40thAnniversaryEdition. So I spent my Friday night snug in bed singing and reciting every word to the lovely and comforting lyrics of this magnificent movie. I felt like I was 5 years old again?.
**The History Behind Mary Poppins**
This movie is based upon the original book by P.L. Travers and was published in 1934. Travers originally wrote this title, amongst 3 others as a 4-part series of books based upon her own imagination, experiences and feelings as a child. It is believed that Pamela Travers, originally penned this book at the age of 10, to try and help her sisters through the anxiety of their ...
Advantages: A classic of French cinema Disadvantages: Challenging at times
, the film is far from straight forward and from start to finish the viewer is continually challenged by the emotional intricacies of the leading character and the hidden meanings that dominate her life. There is one famous scene in the brothel where a large Chinese client approaches clasping a small enamel box. One women refuses his offer, but Severine accepts. Inside there is something buzzing but we never see what it is nor what occurs between the client and Severine. There are plenty of surreal like moments in this film and the separation between the world of fantasy - Severine's fertile imagination and her mundane reality - is never wholly apparent.
The DVD was produced almost 40 years after its original cinema release in 1967. The DVD extras include an interesting 30 minute documentary about the history and making of the film and there ...
