This CD is packed with a range of different music. It has softer songs, which you can lay back and relax whilst listening to it. Then it has more powerful stronger songs in it, which are forceful and demand to be listened to. The variance of the song reflects the story that it is unfolding. The slower songs are the placid parts of the story, and the louder faster songs are the upbeat parts of the story. One great thing about listening to this CD (if you appreciate opera music) is that you can actually understand what is being said. Most operas are performed in foreign tongue, but thankfully, The Phantom of the Opera is spoken in English. You are able to understand what is being said, the story that is being told and you are able to identify the atmosphere from the story by the way the music is performed. The story is based on love and admiration, which then turns foul. Definitely an interesting story. Oh, and just in case you didn't pick up on something that was said, there should be a booklet with all the words printed for you to have a sing along to! However, do not be put off by it not containing all of the songs from the musical. As listed above, all of the hits are there. I really like "Think of Me", it's soft and light. You can hear the admiration between the two singers. "The Phantom of the Opera" is fantastic to listen to; it is so strong and powerful. No wonder it is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's most famous pieces of work! My other favourite is "The Music of the Night". This is a piece of music starts off being very soft and quiet, and then gradually grows in force, power and volume. It is great to sing along to and has a similar sound to "The point Of No Return".
The story revolves around a disfigured musical genius who hides part of his face with a white mask. He hides and lives beneath a Paris Opera House and has fallen in love with Christine and her voice. Christine is a singer in the Opera House and has been living at the Opera House and working as a chorus girl since her father passed away. Christine has been having musical tutoring from a 'body' she believes to be her Father's spirit, but really it is the Phantom. Christine is also admired by Raoul, who is also Christine's childhood sweetheart. This is what "Angel of Music" refers to. Unfortunately, the Phantom is too determined and too strong to let Christine fall away into the arms of some other man. What a love triangle!
