A drama about a gay lawyer (played in an Oscar-winning performance by Tom Hanks) living ... more
with AIDS and battling unfair dismissal from his law firm,Philadelphia(1993) was the first major Hollywood film to address the social controversies surrounding the disease. The soundtrack album offers an eclectic selection of songs, book-ended by a pair of specially written tracks by two giants of American rock: Bruce Springsteen opens with the heartfelt "Streets Of Philadelphia", while Neil Young's contributes the haunting "Philadelphia". (Springsteen has since provided music forDead Man WalkingandThe Wedding Singer, while Young scored the westernDead Man). Peter Gabriel, who himself wrote powerful scores forBirdyandThe Last Temptation of Christ(the album isPassion), offers "Lovetown", while ever the smooth operator, Sade asks "Please Send Me Someone To Love". Elsewhere the great diva Maria Callas performs the aria "La Mamma Morta" by Giordano. The album concludes with "Precedent" from Howard Shore, who also composed the music for director Jonathan Demme's previous film,The Silence of the Lambs. HisPhiladelphiascore is available on a companion release, which also includes more of the opera selections that feature significantly in the movie. Hank's follow-up would be the even more successfulForrest Gump.--Gary S. Dalkin

Advantages: Excellent Movie Sountrack. Disadvantages: None!
memories of this movie and of the time it was released in the charts to me and I just love recalling it all. This track was released in 1985 and reached number 15 in the billboard charts. The music video to accompany this love song was taken from clips of the St Elmo's Fire movie also. This is an excellent track, that?s an all time favourite to me.
Overall Opinion Of St Elmo's Fire Soundtrack.
Well as you have probably gathered from reading this review, I really love this soundtrack a lot. I have had this original one for over twenty years. I first had it on cassette and then upgraded it to CD. It really looks a bit tatty on it, but that?s because it has been played a lot by me over the years, as I love it so much. This CD was one of the first movie soundtracks that really caught my attention because of the great meanings all the songs ...
Advantages: Brings back all the best bits of the film. Disadvantages: None that I know.
WOW! I love the film, and this soundtrack is absolutely amazing as well. Throughout the soundtrack I just want to get up and dance - and sometimes I do... LOL.
It's the whole standing in front of a mirror with the hairbrush CD. If you're a big fan of the film like me, then this is the perfect CD as you know all of the words off by heart without even realising it!
Everyone loves Patrick Swayze, and he sings track 3 (She's Like The Wind). It gives me goosebumps every time!
What makes this soundtrack even better is the price. For less than a fiver there's all the fun of the film! It'll get you dancing before you know it! Although you'll wish you were dancing with Patrick rather than on your own. LOL. ...
Advantages: beautiful music to a great film, very touching, cheap Disadvantages: carelessly made booklet, weird extra track
of gold and red as
you can see in the picture. The writing "Alexander - Original Motion Picture
Soundtrack by Vangelis" looks like gold, with the words "Alexander" and "Vangelis"
being bigger than the rest.
The back of the CD has the tracklist on it, next to a picture of Alexander in battle on
his horse.
The booklet is basicly a long piece of paper folded four times. On the first page there
is a photgraph of Vangelis with the information that all the music has been composed,
arranged, produced and performed by him. In the lower corner of this pages we
get some more information on people who contributed to the songs because
some other instruments played by other musicians are featured in a few tracks.
There is also information on the recording staff and studio,
On the next two pages the tracks are listed again and there is more information ...
