As the name suggests, this was the 4th Zeppelin album and the one that really illustrates the versatility of the band, encompassing elements of folk and blues as well as their trademark hippy rock.
I have never quite worked out what Black Dog is all about - apart from lauding the merits of a skinny woman and warning that big-legged women ain't got no soul. It's a quirky tune with quirky lyrics but somehow it works (8/10)
Rock And Roll could have been produced by Ronseal - it does exactly what it says on the tin. It is no more than a standard rock n roll riff with lyrics that have no real meaning but celebrate the rock n roll genre...

Advantages: Great diversity and outstanding music. Disadvantages: Lacks most of the bands classic material and as such not great as an introduction to Led Zeppelin.
...There are many "gems" to be found on Box Set 2 and it's musical diversity is a joy to listen to. On tracks such as "The Lemon Song" and "You Shook Me" the band's blues roots are on display and later, country influences are very much in evidence on "Hot Dog" and "Darlene", whilst tracks such as "Night Flight", "The Rover", "Four Sticks" and "How Many More Times" are rock masterpieces. The first box set includes most of the band's
best known material and as such for someone new to...

Advantages: Mystical rock ballads from the perilous realm, crashing drums throwing the songs in every direction, the birth of rock and roll !! Disadvantages: NONE
...Ledzeppelin sky rocketed into space after the enormous success of their mystical debut album, while ledzeppelin 1 was a crazy mix of high fidelity and folk magic, the album was very divided in style. There were heavy rock ballads as a backdraw to hold the album up and to emphasise it's music genre, but in between these ballads was pure dazzling magic, laid back, soothing and peculiar tunes and melodies. The magic of Zeppelin has always been lingering in every song but in a cuple of melodies a certain magic is injected into the song by John Paul Jones's crazy, arcane meddling in the forces of medieval instruments such as organs and magical harpsichord like experimentation.
While zeppelin lingered around in the confused late 60's era, their debut was very mixed to suit the style at the time.Their debut album had the heavy rock balading...
