...My brother purchased this album second hand for around £6 and we were quite surprised with the quality. We are both alike being into heavy music and don't really like classical music. But this cd is an exception as the cellos drag you into listening hard for solos and rhythms.
The album includes Metallica classics like "Enter Sandman" and "The Unforgiven", which you would think would be hard to recreate on a cello. But as you listen you can understand and appreciate the experience that the cello players have.
I recommend the cd to any Metallica fan as it just a different way of listening to the master’s music at work. I think that it is useful to know the songs first.
You could compare with S&M but I think that S&M is a cut above Apocalyptica because of the simple fact that Metallica are is it, but Apocalytica is more easy...

Advantages: to add great music in to your collection Disadvantages: None
...Steven Isserlis is an outstanding cellist. When you listen his playing alive, which I did, you can see how he captures you with his playing. I am a professional viola player for twenty years. I have listened many recordings of Bach cello suites from Rostropovich to Peter Bruns. Isserlis plays the suits in a way that you can find something different in his interpretation. Specially the 6th suit. That suit is very difficult to play actually. You should listen and hear it yourself how it flows. I have to also add the price is actually not that expensive. Because you are going to have the six suits which are usually come in two cds and plus interesting piece again by Bach , Cant del Ocells, ( Song of the Birds'). I highly recommend the cd who are interested in solo cello music, Bach or classical music....

Advantages: Beautifully relaxing music Disadvantages: None
...solo piano albums, although it does feature the cello in some tracks. It flows where you expect it to, although not in a boring way. The music ripples along, and the cello brings real emotion in certain tracks. The subtle variations in the music and tempo keep it moving along, but tie the music together in a suite of pieces. The music is very calming and relaxing, and evokes feelings of peace and tranquility. It is suitable as background music, or simply to listen and relax to.
A few people might recognise one of the tracks, Nuvole Bianche from a TV advert for Baci chocolates, used at Christmas time last year. This and 'Ora' are my favourite tracks, although 'A Fuoco' featuring cello makes a close second. The cello tracks (played by Marco Decimo) are an absolutely beatiful combination of piano and cello and bring a perfect flow...
