...with that second album, "The Pink & The Lily". Early signs are not promising, as I'd pretty much forgotten all about her in the interim period. It seems that I was not the only one, as her debut single from the new album only charted at No 58. That's 3 places lower than the initial 2005 release of "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker" achieved before anyone had heard of her and before the hype surrounding Thom really got going and the album itself has only ... ...been taken directly from a Pink song, although this only lasts as long as the introduction, which is a bit of a disappointment. This is a simpler song, lacking the orchestration of the opening track, but it's still a decent enough up-tempo pop song, although it does sound weak by comparison with "The Devil's Beat".
I felt that the slower songs were the weak link on Thom's debut, but the first here suggests better from them this time around. "Wounded ...

Blandness on sale at knock down prices for all to buy.
There just isnt anything here that hasnt been done thousands of times by more accomplished artists but done better.
Sandi Thom is the marketing strategy by RCA that went wrong very quickly.
The opening track "The devils beat" does initially have some promise with a take on Global warming set to a beat but this is the only track that stands apart from the rest from Thoms usual popy/country ... ...being" is a reminder of the first hit single that brought Sandi to the public attention and is repeated again on "Successes ladder".leaving a feeling that after all the promotion done by Sandi and her record company this is really after all just a one trick pony.
Thoms lyrical abilities or lack of are also brought to the fore many times over the albums playing time with special mention going to "Music in my Soul which yet again harks back in time ...

Album Notes: Sandi Thom's second studio album, 'The Pink And The Lily', is inspired by wider tastes than her previous debut album ('Smile It Confuses People' from 2006), but retains the pop/folk sound that made her so popular on inception. Drawing much more upon her personal and childhood experiences than before, 'The Pink And The Lily' has a confessional feel clearly influenced by Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morissette, among others. Much of the material here was co-written by Thom and her partner, Jake Field. Includes the single 'Devil's Beat'.
