Outstanding tracks on this album include a version of 'Letter to Memphis', probably one of the most outstanding tracks on Trompe Le Monde; an even more sparse version of the Doolittle track 'Hey'; 'Wave of Mutilation' - one of the most successful Pixies tracks, alongside 'Caribou' and 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' - all three of which appeared on Death to the Pixies; and '(In Heaven)- Lady in the Radiator song 1' as the final track of the album ending on a very serene note.
All in all, At The BBC is not quite what you'd be expecting from a Pixies album, but it's outstanding nonetheless...

Album Notes
PIXIES AT THE BBC is a collection of 15 previously unavailable performances that were taped for John Peel and Mark Goodier's radio programs between May 3, 1988 & June 23, 1991. The Pixies: Black Francis (vocals, guitar); Kim Deal (vocals, bass); Joey Santiago (guitar); David Lovering (drums). Producers: Mike Robinson, Dale Griffin, Miti. Engineers include: James Birtwistle, Mike Walter, Paul Roberts. The Pixies' wild, off-kilter sound provided a breath of fresh air in the autumn years of the clean-cut eighties. While they were at it, they also happened to change the face of modern music, infecting Boston's ever-livening rock scene with a sense of intelligence and experimentation. Investing an astounding amount of energy into their studio recordings, the Pixies also packed an amazing wallop live, a fact which is documented on PIXIES AT THE BBC, which culls some of their finest moments recorded under the quasi-live conditions of the BBC recording studios in London. In addition to the adrenaline-fueled versions of such classics as "There Goes My Gun" (shortened even further from the album version by a breakneck tempo) and a haunting "Wave Of Mutilation," PIXIES AT THE BBC throws in some other treats: opening with a chaotic rendition of the Beatles' "Wild Honey Pie," the album serves as a sort of historical document spanning four years of musical growth from one of rock's most important voices.
