Moby has succeeded in providing us with another great album. The American Vegan sticks firmly with what he does best, yet of course he does it very well. There is a great range of sounds in this album - from the upbeat track of BodyRock to the mellow sounds of 'Sky is Broken'. They all have the idiosyncratic Moby feel to them - often ambient, in places quite Gospel. Although most of it is synthesised, which may irritate some musicians out there, there are some genuine acoustic instrumental extracts merged into the music in some of the later tunes. Perhaps one of the greatest flaws of this album is not actually Moby's fault - it's so popular that these tunes have been used far too much for commerical purposes. You'll recognise some of them instantly from TV advertisements, and many others for incidental music in TV coverage. However, this means you're on pretty solid ground - there won't be many surprises - but it's merits as a musical journey encompassing varying moods outweighs any disadvantages it may have.
