There was a stage in my time when I was suffering from SLOM (Severe Lack Of Mirth). This meant I did not laugh half as much as I should. Possibly not even a quarter. Well, here my folks, you are looking at the best possible cure for SLOM. Weird Al. Poodle Hat, which incidentally is one of his latest CD's, promises the buyer both laughter, mirth and satisfaction. It completes this far too well.
For those of you who don't know of Weird Al, I will fill you in briefly. He is an unbelievabely talented music artist, who is often dubbed "The King Of Parody", as most of his memorable songs are parodies of famous songs that just need the Micky taking out of them. He does however, write songs of his very own from scratch as well, all of which are just as hillarious as his parodies.
On this CD's his parodies include songs such as "I want it that way" - backstreet boys, and "Lose yourself" - Eminem. Half of the songs are entirely of his own creation, and range from him singing about hardware stores, to parties with lepors. As well as his parodies and own genius creations, you get "The Angry White Boy Polka" - and trust me when I say this. To understand quite what it is, and the extent of its humour, you simply need to hear it. Just go and buy the CD and listen.
I must say that this CD is one of his better albums (even though I can't really fault any of the others). I like ALL Weird Al material... but for some reason, this one holds a special place in my heart.
It isn't bad value for money either. Infact, considering what you will recieve from this album (days of countless laughter, a cure for SLOM, inspiration, a really weird feeling in the pit of your stomach... the list goes on), ANY price would be good value for money. As it happens, the official price from Al's own website is $14.98 (for us British consumers out there that's roughly 8 quid). Which is NOT a bad price at all. But if you are a miser, you can get it for around a fiver probably from ebay. I did.
Uncle Harris's Suggestion: I am not even kidding about this. Not even "bigging up the product", or am not even under the influence of demand characteristics. Seriously just GO BUY THE ALBUM RIGHT NOW! I don't care WHAT you are doing. Just do it.
Advantages: A whole hatful of Al - 12 tracks of enhanced madness! Disadvantages: I skip a track or 2 to get to the 'even better' stuff
The God of Parody reaches into his box of satire delights and bestows fresh nuggets upon us. This is an all round 'hum-dinger' of an album.
As it's my duty, even my raison d'etre, to bring un-mainstream music to the masses, I've been a Weird Al fan for ages. Most of you will know the popular stuff like his Michael Jackson parodies, 'Fat' and 'Eat it' but there is still a sad lack of Al in the charts. C'mon people, if that damn Crazy Frog can get ... ...Potato Parody of Lose yourself... Eminem never sounded so good. Fast talkin' TV trashin'
2. Hardware Store
Rythmic and complicated. Watch for the mid-section then checkout the lyrics on the inlay to find out what just happened. Frenetic.
3. Trash Day Parody of 'It's gettin hot in here'... Don't particularly like Nelly. Liked this.
4. Party at the Leper Colony All my childhood leper jokes in one song! For those with a particular sense of humour

Additional notes
Album Notes: This is an Enhanced CD which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: "Weird Al" Yankovic, Jim West (guitar, mandolin); Dweezil Zappa (guitar); Herb Pederson (banjo); John Juke Logan, Will Anderson (harmonica); Tom Evans (saxophone); Lee Thornburg (trumpet, trombone); Ruben Valtierra, Ben Folds (piano); Kim Bullard (keyboards); Steve Jay (bass); John Bermuda Shwartz (drums, percussion, programming); Maxine Waters, Julia Waters, Carmen Twilley (background vocals). Recorded at Mad Dog Studios, Burbank, California. Novelty acts by their very definition tend to be fleeting; once their novelty wears off, the humor evaporates and the performer is a footnote, an answer to a trivia question, if even that. POODLE HAT marks the third decade of parody king "Weird Al" Yankovic's work, with the modern master of all that's silly is still garnering attention and selling albums, showing no sign of stopping. No matter how inured one might be to his antics, it's hard to deny some of his truly gut-busting moments. Take the Eminem parody "Couch Potato," which skewers practically every television show and related fad of the previous four years, even offering rather trenchant commentary on reality television; it's hard to tell if he's kidding or serious when he spouts "next week on Fox watch lions eat Christians." Most importantly, the parody is deft and dead-on, as most novelty acts who have managed any kind of career from Spike Jones to Tom Lehrer have been students of their art, an art surprisingly complex for all its silliness. POODLE HAT matches the usual expectations of Yankovic fans, featuring the usual anticipated and hilarious polka medley and a startlingly deft guest shot by piano man Ben Folds.
Album Reviews: Entertainment Weekly (07/11/03, pp.76-7) - "...Yankovic is one of the few musicians who play with words and pop culture as deftly as Eminem..." - Rating: B
