I love this album. There is something about Khaela Maricich's singing which makes this music so compelling and almost addictive. It sounds so honest uncontrived that something in it draws you in and compels you to listen to what she has to say. She has a kind of easy cool sound to her voice which makes it easy and enjoyable to listen to, as well making her songs even more catch and memorable!
A lot of the lyrics on this album are interesting, beautiful and make you smile., For example on, "hey boy", a song about a boy not calling her back, Khaela goes through possible reasons, singing, "A) you're gay B) You have a girlfriend C) you kinda thought I came on too strong or D)I just wasn't your thing, no ring". This just has something brilliant in it's simplicity. This album doesn seem to be a bit more bitty, more of a kind of concept album than "paper television" (2006), as it came earlier but in some ways this adds to its charm. On this album, "hey boy" and "come on petunia" are the most catchy and memorable, although the other tracks are till good, these really do stand out as brilliant.
Hey boy starts with a catchy beat, provided by Khaela Maricich's ex collborator, Jona. The song, on the whole, is very simplistic and basic and carries the electronic indie theme which is apparent throughout the album. Come on petunia is a little more upbeat and will leave you singing it all day, the chorus, which is very catchy and memorable, borrows lyrics from "the police" song, "every little thing she does is magic".
I would recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of the blow and would urge anyone who isn't to give them a go. I think that it would appeal to a lot of people as it is quite easy to listen to and the songs are catchy, with interesting lyrics. I have to admit, however, that this is not the blow's finest work. I personally prefer, "paper television" and "the concussive caress" as both of these albums, particularly the former, seem more organised and contains lot more strong tracks.
