Advantages: Great guitar, funky Disadvantages: Very 80's sound
Take yourself back to 1990, where hair was big, guitar solos ruled the music world and CD players were an uncommon phenomenon. It is in this year that we find the second offering from the funk-metal group Extreme.
Featuring the guitar talents of Mr. Nuno Bettencourt, this 4 piece band made quite an impact in the early 90's hard rock/guitarist scene (before Nirvana came along and changed everything with the release of 'Nevermind'). If you've never ... ...are either younger than 20 who aren't into guitar-y music), the best way to describe their style would be a cross between funk (hence the subtitle of the album being 'A Funked up Fairytale') and late 80's hard rock. A heavier early-Red Hot Chilli Peppers if you like. That said there are moments of pure lounge jazz, so it's a reasonably varied album.

Advantages: Some great tracks including 20 minute masterpiece Disadvantages: Rock and rap together in a couple of tracks don't go.
...It's 1992, Extreme are releasing the follow up to Pornograffiti (the one with More Than Words on it). They've just played the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and been proclaimed by Brian May to be "The New Queen." They're now caught between trying to appeal to the fans who supported them when they were starting out as a hard rock band, and their new fans who want them to be Queen.
And to be fair they nearly pull it off. Unfortunately when they fail, it really sounds bad.
