Advantages: Great lyrics,You just want to sing along to most songs Disadvantages: A couple of run of the mill mariah ballads
...As a big Mariah fan anyway I bought the album to add to the nuemerous mariah cds in my collection . And boy i was not dissapointed i did.The first three tracks i had heard on the radio before i had purchased the cd and loved them anyway .Following the first three tarcks i wasnt so keen on the rest .But ithink with all albums thats expected you get a few flecks of gold mixed amongst the sand.
But after listening to the album a few more times i began to like the rest.Yes Mariah Deffo did not let me down.Glad to see her back at her best after the Rainbow album.
So i can assure you there is definetly a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow....

Advantages: Like The Wind In Your Hair On A Sunny Day. Disadvantages: At Times A Little Reliant On Their Influences.
...of the rainbow and a perfunctory pot of gold.
At this point the album skews off at a tangent. 'Country Leaver' lives up to its billing, dollops of grainy chords and a mock south Carolina accent turns the album on its head. Thankfully the admittedly catchy interlude is replaced by 'Solid's take on what Johnny Cash would have written were he born 3 decades later. Not too clever but instant foot tapping inspiration all the same.
There is the odd rare occasion where TTFUB fails to impress. 'Horse Pills' is one such moment where a sloppy Sonic Youth pastiche neither provokes nor titillates. The feedback is too loose to be of worth and the chorus is as plodding as a broken down PC.
When Courtney Taylor's eye trains on a consistent melody the result is a knock your socks off dinger. Eerily close to the sound of 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly...

Advantages: Better than J.E.E.P Disadvantages: Not as good as their first or second albums
...throughout(i.e the one at the very beginning). The harmonic vocals are sublime and add to the bluesy feel of the song. Precious. 9/10
<10>Rainbows And Pots Of Gold [4.11]
This song makes use of strings however it is a little repetitive. The lyrics are strong and keep the song from going flat. 6/10
<11>I Miss You Now [4.50]
This song is typical laid back blues. Slow and reflective to start with but a little more interesting towards the end. A 'poly-filler' song- not typical Stereophonics material. 6/10
<12>High As The Ceiling [3.19]
At last- something a bit more lively. The album needs this song to keep it interesting. An excellent loud and intrusive rock n roll track to set you up for the finale. Kelly's distinctive voice is used to its full potential, however you can't always hear him with everything going on around him. 8/10
<13>Since I...

Advantages: voice of an angel, haunting beautiful music Disadvantages: brings a lump to my throat
...I have only had this CD for a few weeks and think I might have worn it out! she is truly a most wonderful woman, inspiring, moves me to tears every time I put it on. The melodies are haunting and yet wonderful to listen to. I have never heard anyone sing like her and it is such a tragedy that she died so young. It is not very often that a singing voice like Eva's is heard, it is so magical and seems to touch the lives of everyone that listens to her. I can remember now when Terry Wogan played Eva's version of Over the Rainbow on Radio 2, people were phoning in and asking who is this amazing singer. She truly is amazing and it is such a tragedy and a tremendous loss that she is not around now to enthrall and touch all our hearts.
The list of songs on the CD are:
Fields of Gold, Wade in the Water, Autumn Leaves, Wayfaring Stranger, Time...

Advantages: Plently of great indie anthems Disadvantages: A few weaker tracks - Dolpin '99 and Mark
...A greatest hits collection from the much underrated 90's indie band fronted by Rick Witter. A very good album featuring all of the band's biggest hits.
If you're a fan of Britpop acts like Oasis, Cast, Elastica, Sleeper etc you should definately get this album.
I have never bought any Shed Seven records before this and was surprised at just how many tracks I recognised. There are several great sing-a-long anthems like "Getting Better" and "Going for Gold" as well as reflective ballads like "Ocean Pie".
I would recommend this album over the other compilation of Shed Seven's songs "the collection" as Going for Gold includes the big singles "Chasing Rainbows" and "On Standby" which do not feature on "the collection".
A truely classic Britpop album....
