Advantages: Clearly explained, good starting point, interesting facts, good advice
Disadvantages: Very vague, most of it is plain commonsense, not enough input from Slough volunteers

This book is the accompaniment to the BBC television series Making Slough Happy, which I didn?t watch, where in May 2005 a group of 6 happiness experts embarked on a 3 month project to make the residents of Slough happier. Slough was chosen because it has a diverse population (various ages, cultural backgrounds, etc.) and among the lowest unemployment rate in the country, which minimized the one huge factor that affects happiness and cannot be easily sorted out in a few months. The author, Liz Hoggard is a freelance writer and broadcaster rather than an expert on happiness, but this does have the advantage of her making the book extremely easy to understand with no psychological jargon. Review of How To Be Happy - Liz Hoggard

Happy to Be, Happy for Me!

Advantages: Smells fresh, young, full of energy
Disadvantages: None

The first time that I tried Happy to Be was when I got a free sample in a gift set after buying some other Clinique products. This then became one of my favourite daytime perfumes... ever! The smell is simple, quite direct, happy, sunny, and full of energy. Happy to Be is also quite feminine, but not to the point where I do not feel it is proper for wearing in the office environment. I wear it to work, to go out and hang out with friends, and also for sports. It always puts me in a good mood, no matter the activity. Also, the smell makes me feel very young - reliving my university days. One other thing is that it feels very 'orange', my favourite colour! Actually, this is so close to me that I hope less people buy it - it means there will be less chance of me bumping into someone with the same perfume on! ...

If you want to be happy read this book

Advantages: Easy to read and really useful
Disadvantages: I must read it again as a reminder!

I am really interested in self-help books and have quite a collection. This one is definitely one of the best that I have read! I usually buy this type of book and use it to dip into now and again as I feel the need as they can sometimes be heavy going to read in the way that one would read a novel. This one was quite different. I bought it to look at during a long train journey and I just read it easily from cover to cover. It contains good common sense advice written in the sort of style that it is an interesting read. There are also humorous quotes and cartoons throughout the book too. At then end of each section there is a paragraph entitled ‘in a nutshell’ which serves to remind you in just a few words what you have just learned about yourself.
