Presents Charles Mingus [Remastered] - Charles Mingus
Additional notes
Album Notes: Full title: Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus. Personnel: Charles Mingus (bass); Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone, bass clarinet); Ted Curson (trumpet); Dannie Richmond (drums). Recorded at Nola Penthouse Studio, New York, New York on October 20, 1960. Includes liner notes by Nat Hentoff. Digitally remastered by Mark Tomase. This 1960 recording features Mingus with a quartet, a small ensemble in comparison to many of his other records. The circumstances were unique; this was to be Eric Dolphy and Ted Curson's last recording with the bassist after playing with him for many months (although this certainly wasn't to be Mingus and Dolphy's final artistic pairing). This personnel crisis, rather than resulting in a stiff and stressed performance, produced one of Mingus' finest albums. The songs here feature a fiery amalgam of blues, gospel, and folk with group improvisation. The band attempted to duplicate the feel of a club performance without the attendant hazards and sound problems; Mingus had the lights dimmed to simulate an evening gig, and he playfully banters to a non-existent audience. The version of "Original Faubus Fables" on this album is notable for the inclusion of its talking/singing sections condemning the racist governor of Georgia, which were excluded from a previously released version of the song.
Titles on disc 1

Advantages: Fantastic display of Jazz composition Disadvantages: Jazz isn't for everyone
...CharlesMingus - In a Soulful Mood.
CharlesMingus, also known as "The angry man of Jazz", is a fantastic jazz bassist and composer. He was born in 1922 in Arizona and picked up the Double Bass in high school. He had previously learnt to play the cello and trombone so many of his cello skills were converted to double bass. In his early years he was composing incredibly advanced jazz pieces, some of which to be recorded later on.
Over his career Mingus recorded in excess of 70 records with various musicians passing through his often unconventional bands. He tended to focus on the personality, as well as the ability, of a musician to see how he would fit into the band. He ran a jazz workshop that included around 8 members and shaped musicians into unconventional ways that explored their improvisational talents. Pieces...

Advantages: An excellent album featuring fifteen fantastic Pop Punk anthems Disadvantages: Lyrical intelligence can at times be at a minimum
...Busted were an English Pop Punk band which released two albums and nine singles during their four year history. Active between the years of 2001 and 2005, Busted were a massively popular pop phenomenon with four Number One's to their name, and eight of their nine singles in fact having reached the top 3 in the Official UK Chart. The ninth can in fact be discounted entirely as it was only a Limited-Edition single which never could have entered the charts anyway. 'A Present For Everyone' I feel is the best of the two albums the band released and is in fact one of my favourite albums of all time. Of their four Official UK Number One's, three came from this album; 'Crashed The Wedding', 'Who's David', and '3am'. In the album charts, 'A Present For Everyone' peaked at number 2, eventually becoming a Triple Platinum selling album.

Advantages: legally listen to all tracks for free online, great album Disadvantages: none
...second UK tour, ‘A Ticket For Everyone Tour’ will take place in March 2004, where 4 extra dates have had to be added due to popular demand.
They have become huge in the UK, Germany, Japan and Australia and are going to have a try at America in May 2004. Good luck to them.
Their second album, A Present For Everyone, which I am reviewing now, was released on 17th November 2003 and sold 27,000 copies in it’s first day. 1,000 more copies than Michael Jackson’s greatest hits album.
Michael Jackson and his album got a lot of publicity during the week so it entered the album chart at number 1 and Busted’s album only reached number 2.
* Album cover *
The cover of Busted’s album is a picture of them pulling faces at the camera. The message they are trying to put across is that they’re not taking themselves too seriously. The Busted logo...
