Pretties for You was Alice Cooper's first release in 1969 and anyone listening to it without being familiar with it would struggle to recognise it as Alice Cooper. The work is psychedelic rock n roll and sounds like The Doors with more emphasis put on guitar work and mouth organ as opposed to keyboard.
This album was released at a time when the band were yet to have really dabbled with shock rock, when they were based in California playing to hippies and gays, signed to Frank Zappa's record label and were dressed "as barbie dolls" by another Zappa band The GTO's, an enterage of female groupies from the sunset strip.
The songs are trippy and fun, guitar work is fairly good, vocals are sound, drum sounds like someone tapping on a car steering wheel and the lyrics themselves seem to make little sense in the order they are written. Infact they make Syd Barrett look incredibly coherent, despite this fact - it doesn't stop me listening and listening again trying to decipher!
