Advantages: Funky, Catchy and it is Satch Disadvantages: Lack of Experimentation
I bought this album from my local store and i have got to say that i wasn't overly impressed by this offering from Joe but the more you listen to it, the more you get a sense of the musical genius of Satch. I bought this album from my local store and i have got to say that i wasn't overly impressed by this offering from Joe but the more you listen to it, the more you get a sense of the musical genius of Satch. Overall its a very mysterious album with some funky songs. But it seems like Joe is content with continuing to do what he is good at and not branching out like most other contemporary artist e.g Vai, Johnson and Gilbert which is fine by me but for which he has been criticized in the past.

Overall i will give this album 4 out of 5 as it is a good collaboration but not his best by far.

Album Notes
Balancing scorching soul and hifalutin technique, there is virtually no style of music that celebrated guitarist Joe Satriani can't play. On this 2008 solo album, he provides heart-stirring power-ballads ("Revelation"), hot funk ("Professor Satchafunkilus"), head-banging garage anthems ("I Just Wanna Rock"), and gorgeous acoustic finger-picking ("Andalusia"). Though the album is mostly instrumental, the lyricism of Satriani's playing holds a listener's interests and doesn't let go.
Album Reviews
Record Collector (magazine) (p.95) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[Satriani] delivers 10 prime cuts bridging ambient overdriven rock....'Diddle-Y-A-Doo-Dat' sees Satch stretch back to Purple days with a fusion-edged tour de force."
