Advantages: Fantastic music Disadvantages: Not a single one
Psychedelic Frequencies is probably one of my most favourite CDs of all times. It is a compilation of some of the best Psychedelic music that was ever created.
It starts off with the seminal work, "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane. The soaring, sexually charged voice of Grace Slick on this song (which owes a great deal for its musical structure to Ravel's Bolero) is a definitive musical moment of the 1960s counter culture. (Oops, I think I went a bit OTT then!)
The second track, King Midas in Reverse, by The Hollies, has some exceptionally fine acoustic guitarwork. It tells the story of someone who is "King Midas with a curse, he's King Midas in reverse" The use of strings and orchestral instruments and tambourines adds greatly to this song.
Track three, War In Peace, by Skip Spence, is probably typical of the late 1960 ...
Advantages: Great music from the flower power era Disadvantages: One (or maybe two) songs don't really belong on it
I had not heard for many years. The Strawberry Alarm Clock and Incense and Peppermint. (The title of this song was later used in a song by Blondie.) This is an amazing song, with urgent, swirling sounds and swirling ideas. "Who cares what games we choose? Everything to win, nothing to lose."
Track 3 The Lemon Pipers, Green Tambourine. "Help a poor man build a pretty dream." They don't write them like that anymore! Nifty bit of sitar-style music and tambourine, which sounds very good in stereo.
Track 4 Pictures of Matchstick Men, by Status Quo. What the hell happened to Status Quo? From primo psychedelic band to? oh, well, never mind! "Pictures of Matchstick Men and you" and of what might have been.
Track 5 A Dream Within a Dream by Spirit. Piano, muted guitars and ethereal lyrics, vocalised in a curiously old fashioned but ...
Advantages: appeal to all ages Disadvantages: few songs are repetitive
The twilight soundtrack is a mix of artists from paramore to muse, Its a mixture of styles, ranging from upbeat, rocky sounds to slow melodic sounds.
Some of the songs are very catchy like linkin parks 'Leave out all the rest' and 'decode' by Paramore. Also included in the album is 'Bella's lullaby' by Carter Burwell for all you twi-hard fans!
This album (for me) is something i would definitely recommend to buy as it has music for everyones tastes, and is an album for all ages.
The one thing that i will point out about this album is sometimes it does have a knack of sounding slightly repetitive, and out of fifteen songs i would recommend twelve out of fifteen that are positively cheerful, singalong songs.
I have to say though that having the album out so early does mean that twilight fans have the chance to singalong and get ...
