...and died in 1991. He was replaced by Dennis Edwards, another forceful and dynamic singer that certainly had all the credibility of David Ruffin as The Temptations continued to pump out hits until the early 70's.
Cloud Nine marked a turning point for The Temptations, becoming one of their own and indeed, Motowns landmark recordings. It introduced an injection of social consciousness into the lyrics and featured a startling psychedelic guirtar riffage amidst the complex musical arrangements.
The Temptations were clearly influenced by the Rock-Soul-Psychedelic phenomenon and much of their output from the late 60's to the early 70's, encapsulated this explosive range of styles on such fantastic recordings as PsychedelicShack and the compelling masterpiece, Runaway Child, Running Wild.

Advantages: Completley Defines The Genre Of Prog Rock Disadvantages: The Density of Sound Can Be Unappealing
...It is becoming quite the done thing for old progressive rock bands to re-master their back catalog for CD. I wholeheartedly approve of this kind of shenanigans especially when you get one of the classics of the genre like this one with a fantastic booklet, which features all the original artwork and extra press clippings and photos. When the re-mastering is done under the guidance of the artist it is even better as this leads to a better sonic experience. This reissue of King Crimsons classic In The Court Of The Crimson King, is a perfect example of this. It is also released on Robert Fripp's Discipline Global Mobile label (http://www.dgmlive.com/) which means that the artist has complete control over the record, which is an added bonus, as you now the cash is going where it should go, to the artist.

...with the odd folky influence from Rocky. Beneath all the psychedelic gleam there is a great band here from the initial haunted yelping of Rocky on the punk rhythm and blues of "you're gonna miss me" onto the haunted surf guitar picking of "Roller Coaster" during which rocky sounds truly tortured, and the tenderness of the country gospel "Kingdom of Heaven" there are already glimpses of Rocky's Genus.
It is not just Rocky that shines here Stacy Sutherland is one of the most underrated guitarists in the history of psychedelic rock his guitar work reverberates around the songs adding layers of texture to the music in a truly psychedelic fashion, the haunted surf line on "Through the Rhythm" sends shivers up and down as it stalks through the song.
The recording quality at times on this CD lets things down and a proper remastering is well overdue...
