Advantages: Plenty of hits with well written lyrics Disadvantages: None
No, this isn't an album of John Terry and Petr Cech singing, it's a bit of a punk classic. A compilation album covering punk band Chelsea's work from 1978 to 1982. Originally set up by Gene October and containing a band full of talent, initially including Billy Idol , Tony James and John Towe who quickly left with no hard feelings to Generation X while Gene October went through numerous line-up changes and focussed on the more political side of punk. Struggling for decent promotion, the band failed to release much in the way of albums but this album proves they definitely had some top hits.
Gene October's vocals are quite unique, neither raw and raucuous or prim and poppy, they have a stylish 60s sound added to a bloke in the pub belting out a punk anthem. The lyrics tend to be political but are not completelly in your face ...
Advantages: Songs not released on albums Disadvantages: None
This is the hardest thing i'm going to be reviewing for quite some time so i'm going to keep it simple.
The Singlescollection contains ten disks. Nine released singles and one unreleased. In total there are 44 songs. Many of which are bonus tracks and don't appear on albums. I'm going to list the songs in sections of which single they are on and write a bit about each single to save you reading a 50 000 word review.
Gone with the Sin
1. Gone with the Sin (Radio edit)
2. Gone with the Sin (O.D Version)
3. For You (Accoustic Version)
4. Bury me Deep inside Your Heart (Live)
5. Gone with the Sin (Album version)
The highlight of this album is the Radio edit of "Gone with the Sin". I think that it would be the album version but i'v heard it a lot on the album. The acoustic version of "For You" is also a good song. I didn ...
Advantages: Quite different Disadvantages: Overly camp and under entertaining
The Dickies were a punk band from LA, a few of the band members are dead now after drug overdoses and as I wasn't around when they came out - I can't say I'd heard of them until a few years ago. I got a copy of their PunkSinglesCollection which as you may have guessed, is a compilation of their best tunes. Currently described as camp and humorous, I'd agree with one of the two - I've never found American's campness particularly humourous but still had high hopes for The Dickies, picturing them as a collaboration of Dale Winton and Graham Norton in a punk rock way.
The reality was somewhat more bland, a rather straight band really when it comes down to it and anyone who says they are better than their LA rivals The Germs, is clearly not all there. Whilst Banana Splits may have been a popular hit in the UK once, it looks incredibly ...
