Push Barman To Open Old Wounds [Digipak] - Belle & Sebastian

Advantages: Sill doing what they do best; brilliant pop tunes
Disadvantages: A couple of weak links.

.... Highlights include… Another Sunny Day, a sweet and innocent pop song, pulling all the right strings without, somehow, sounding clichéd. The word painting of a church-bell-style guitar solo makes me smile every time. White Collar Boy, a typically Belle and Sebastian take on a twisted love story. 10/10 for imagination. Sukie in the Graveyard The perfect blend of great song writing and clever arrangement create a relatively ambitious hit, which is guaranteed to get you dancing… or at least moving in your seat. Anyway, with an opening couplet like; "Sukie was the kid, she liked to hangout in the graveyard She did brass rubbings, she learned you never had to press hard" you can't go wrong. Advantages: Quite atmospheric and then a bit disturbing - a bit different to chill to
Disadvantages: Far too short and ultimately unengaging - no real highlights

...Agaetis Byrjun(AB) by them is still my favourite album of the last 5 years and the best thing I can say about Ba Ba is that in places the unique sound that epitomised the best of A B is also present here. The big problem is the album is barely more than a good old fashioned EP and sounds like the film music it is leaving you to feel there is not enough time or depth to get into it. It starts in a slightly worrying fashion in as much as the opening few minutes bear more than a passing resemblance to the opening of Tubular Bells and if there is one thing you expect of Sigur Ros it is originality albeit exeptionally painful at times - and talking of pain it is the cathartic element of their music that sets them aside from their contempories and it this element that is most obviously missing form Ba Ba. ...A must have for any Belle and Sebastian fans! A great combination of songs and strange but wonderful lyrics make "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" one of my most played CDs. "I'm a Cuckoo" and "If she wants me" are two examples of of the varity of catchy songs that Belle and Sebastian have composed. All songs and song words are very original and should be played more on the radio and music channels!! Some of the songs do take a while to get started though and do go for a little too long but still a brilliant album that I am so glad I own!! A great bunch of tunes that you never get bored listening too! Belle and Sebastian has come a long way since 1996 and there music keeps getting better and better, its looks good for there future!!...
