Rachmaninov Quote - 'I feel like a ghost wandering in a world grown alien. I cannot cast out the old way of writing and I cannot acquire the new'.
For those of you who are not avid listeners of classical music do not shy away from purchasing any of Rachmaninov's music as it provides an alternative mood for you to listen to in your personal music collections.

---Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor---
Like much of Rachmaninov's music this piece is very deep and the mood of the song fluctuates alot. It is sad and uplifting at the same time and goes from slow quiet rhythms to louder and faster sections. I would not advise purchasing this sole song, but to buy a compilation of Rachmaninov's music. As although all very simlararly emotive his songs are distinct enough to be considered seperate from one another and include other instruments such as violins and oboe's.
An advantage of classical music is that it is much cheaper than mainstream popular music. Therefore for a regular buyer of CD's a large collection can be formed much quicker, while for the occasional listener one or two CD's don't dent the finances. The Naxos label is recommended as at £5 for the vast majority of there CD's you incur relatively little expense. On a final note in my opinion I would buy a compilation of Rachmaninov's music to relax to rather than a compilation or relaxing music, say like the 'Very Best Of Relaxing Classics' music which is a combination of various composers.

Rachmaninoff is up there with my very favourite classical composers, although I slightly prefer the third concerto to the second. The “Rach 2” is, however, a masterpiece. Full of gorgeous romanticism in the slow movement, with a more sinister darker mood in the first, it is no wonder that this concerto is possibly the most popular of all time. >>> JAXLE
