I was recently bought this compilation CD as a gift from my partner, as he knew I loved the first one that was bought out last year. So with a flurry of excitment I stuck it in the player and began flicking through the tracks to get a feel for which ones I knew or not as the case may be. This is a habit have when getting a new CD - flick through them quickly then re play the tracks i know / like in full. I have to say I was not disappointed with this sequel and there were very few tracks I didn't like.
Once again it is a double CD, with 40 tracks to tickle your taste buds. Cover art is nothing to get excited about, but it does the job. To be fair you don't buy a CD for it's cover, however i do get attracted to ones that are bright and interesting. I think it's easily recognisable as a radio 1 compilation.
Tracks include live lounge classics such as Coldplay - Yellow, The Zutons - Valerie, Kasabian - Empire, and also unique covers like Natasha Bedingfield - Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol), Avril lavigne - The scientist (Coldplay) and The Enemy - Hung up (Madonna)
My personal favourite is Keane - Dirrtylicious, a wicked rendition mix of Christina Aguilera / Destiny's Child. Fun and funky!
The good bits - Good mix of original artists singing their own tracks as well as the re-mixes of popular tunes sung by alternate groups/ artists. Quality recordings throughout, and in my opinion you can't beat live recordings for sussing out the sheer talent and worthyness of artists.
The bad bits - I have to admit that i didn't recognise some of the artists featured on the CD when I went through them, but that may be down to me not being very worldly wise in the music scene, however for me this was a down side. Other than that i cannot fault it!
Good for - It would appeal to a wide audience of age groups as well as musical tastes and therefore I think this CD will do well and will probably be a very popular Christmas gift this year!
Hope you enjoyed my review! Tasha x
