Rafi Resurrected is an 18 song musical feast that brings for the first time a symphonic interpretation of Indian film music.
One can only go into raptures while talking about a legendary singer like Mohammad Rafi...One of the Greatest Indian playback singers ever. He brought hundreds of melodies to life and to this day there has been no other singer who could come anywhere near him, let alone surpass him..In real life Mohammad Rafi was a simple, down to earth person totally in tune with reality and unspoilt with all the success and adulation that he received. He stood tall and to this day commands the same kind of respect and adulation so many years after his death.. It is nearly 28 years since Mohammad Rafi passed away ,but, he continues to mesmerize music lovers through his vast legacy of melodious songs.. Almost all new singers try to emulate his voice and Sonu Nigam has been one of those many singers..but to his credit, Sonu Nigam is an extremely talented singer who has made a mark singing on the stage and for films for almost 2 decades now... Sonu Nigam, who is a dedicated Rafi fan since his childhood, thought that it was an extra-ordinary honor to take part on this project and to be considered as the singer for the album and the tour...Sonu Nigam has tried to mould his career and songs based on Mohammad Rafi, so it is only natural that he should be the one , paying tribute his mentor.
The grand finale of the tour took place on July 20th, 2008 in London Coliseum which was completely sold out. In front of the mostly Indian audience and supported by the female singer Gunjan Singh, Sonu Nigam sang 16 songs of the highly adored Indian singer Mohammad Rafi, who passed away in 1980.
Along with the great 75-piece symphony orchestra Sonu Nigam enthused the whole audience. Many of them have never before attended to a symphony concert and came only to listen to the old classical Rafi songs. But even the most sceptical Rafi fans got convinced by the outstanding performance of the singer and the orchestra and showed their enthusiasm by a thunderous applause during and a non-ending standing ovation at the end of the show.
Normally adding his own values to the songs, this time Sonu Nigam stuck very closely to the originals, which was highly appreciated by the audience. At the beginning of the concert, the musicians of the orchestra and audience were standing up from their seats and had a minute of silence in remembrance of Mohammad Rafi.
Each song was hand picked and constitute some of the most popular songs sung by Mohammad Rafi...The orchestra by The City of Birmingham Symphony is superb, enhancing the quality of the CD. My own favorites from this album include include 'Suhaani raat dhal chuki', 'Yaad na jaaye beethe dinon ki' 'Tum jo mil gaye ho ''Teri ghaliyon mein naa rakhenge sanam' among others... This has 2 cds and 18 gems of Mohammad Rafi in Sonu Nigam's voice.. Sonu, in my opinion is the best among all the Rafi clones. His immense adoration and respect for Rafi has made him perfect or rather mold his voice perfectly to that of Rafi
Definitely a music CD worth having in your collection especially for all those Rafi and Sonu Nigam fans.
