...a true genius in his field, ustadvilayatkhan has left a rich legacy of his beautiful music. his style of playing was indeed unique to his own gharana (a household of music that students join to learn) that he was the prime representative for. He knows exactly what he must do to make his playing heart breaking and emotionally overwhelming. the raga marwa is a beautiful raga already, and in the hands of such an expert one can really see the flowers of the terrifying raga blossom out. his death is a huge loss to the world of indian music and one can do nothing but admire how he did in his life time what generations have not been able to do. his sons, now playing as well as him reflect his humble attitude to his music and his love for his sitar and equally his voice. he may have passed away but his music will never be forgotten...

Advantages: Just great quality music! Disadvantages: Hardly any!
...I,m a recent listener of Shpongles music, having first heard them on Last FM radio. These really are a superb band with there fusions of psychedelic / trance / dub / world / electro crossovers. Definitely right up my street and anyone elses for that matter who are into stuff like Ozric Tentacles , Banco De Gaia , to name but a few.
When i first heard the excellent flute playing , on this CD and others i was reminded of some early ' Quintessence ' a band of the late 60's to 70's.... lo and behold upon gaining further info on the line up who else was it but Raja Ram himself from the very same band. Anyway this is a splendid CD as are all of them! Very highly recommended!
MEMBERS:
Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) Raja Ram (one half of The Infinity Project and founder of the indo-prog/raga rock group of the 60's/70's Quintessence).

Advantages: This is THE best DJ mix album I have ever heard Disadvantages: If you dont like dance music you wont like it
..."Coldcut" - Matt Black and Johnathon Moore, two music technicians/producers/DJ's. I first encountered them on their weekly (sadly no longer running) radio show. Their brief was simple : Play whatever you want. A lot of people have been speaking about the late, great John Peel recently. A sad loss for the music world and no mistake - he is almost without comparison in modern musical spheres, a man with truly eclectic musical tastes, boundless enthusiasm for every genre, and a complete lack of musical snobbery. Why am I banging on about Mr Peel?
Because his sucessors in modern times can only be listed under 2 possibilities: The great Giles Peterson...
