I'm a 19 year old student at UEA in Norwich studying Law with French Law, originally I'm from Essex, just outside Southend. I enjoy most sports, especially football, and like a stereotypical student spend most of my evenings in the bar.

You've heard the line, it features on nearly all her songs:"Mariah, you on Fire", but it's not quite right. I confess I have three of her albums and love her music but it's hardly inspirational or different is it.
Obviously Mariah has a great voice, sells millions upon millions of albums, and is a great songwriter, not to mention the fact that she's quite nice to look at. Someone doesn't get to where she is without talent which she has in abundance but I wonder sometimes how she gets so far with such a narrow range to her music. She's found a nice little niche in the market and one almost thinks she is afraid to branch out for fear of losing her popularity.
Her ballads are great and are clearly her strength providing the ideal backdrop for work, play, or even a little romance. But the tunes that stand out in my mind and make me pay attention are the more lively R'n'B type tunes where she collaborates with the likes of Puff Daddy, Jermaine Dupri, and Jay-Z. These have attitude and dare to be different from her normal style although admittedly don't stand out so much in the wider market as they do on her own album.
Overall Mariah is a great artist and I'm sure to but her next album when it is released because it's a certain hit. However I just hope she experiments a bit more because her voice is agile enough to encompass many styles but she seems a little reluctant. At the moment the girl is smoking, but on fire might not be far away.

Mariah Carey certainly has an excellent voice and I loved her first album. However, I got a bit sick of all the twiddly high bits she kept sticking in all over the place , just to show us all that she could do it. Yes, Mariah we know you have a great voice - but did no-one ever tell you that less can be more??
