Hi out there. Today I'm going to write my first opinion @ ciao.uk. First of all I've to say that I come from Germany - it may be, that my English is really bad, but I hope that you correct me...
But now let's go on with the cd, I will present tonight: Mariah Carey's "Rainbow"...
[a few words to mariah carey]
Mariah Carey is not only the worldwide most succesfull singer, but also has a sparkling carrier. Her first cd "Mariah Carey" and the first single "Vision Of Love" were selled very often, but Mariah Carey wasn't famous at all. Most people thought that she was a cheap copy of Whitney Houston -> similar texts, similar music. With the following cd's she pointed out that she is no copy of anybody - just Mariah... Today she sold over 160.000.000 cd's and 'collected' diamond and platin...

The cover is made very simple: Front and back are white, showing rainbows and Mariah Carey. The inlay is two-sided. On one side it is a poster
showing mariah in a very sexy way =). The second sides shows all the song-textes, written very small - might be, you need glasses to read it...
[the songs]
1 - Heartbraker This song is the most famous title of 'Rainbow' and also a #1 hit. It's a middle-fast R'n'B Song, which also is very danceable... =) I liked it, because Jay-Z and Mariah Carey seem to be a perfect team. Also Mariahs voice is very good - not only high and 'screaming' [you know - that ONE way she is able to sing... sounds like mice...]
2 - Can't take that away Oh I really love this song... It's a very slow ballad with a wonderful, hopemaking [<- ehh... does this word exist???] text and an incredible voice of Mariah Carey. She is singing in a very emotional way, starting slow and simple, but after a while her voice is full of volume... A REALLY 'Mariah-Carey-Song' and my personal #1 on this cd.
3 - Bliss Uhh... I don't like this one. Mariah Carey is singing very, very high and that way, I've already describben as 'mice-sound'. It's a slower song and very boring... Not good...
4 - How Much That Number starts with a rapper [but don't ask me, who...] and is another R'n'B song. Beside Mariah's good voice the beat is a kind of slow, but not as if it was a ballad. Not my favorite title, but not bad at all...
5 - After Tonight Yessss.... =) Another 'real-Mariah-Carey-Song'. An emotional text, emotional voice and a really nice beat. In conclusion: A really good one... In front of all the text is very romantic [it's a kind of a lovestory. but I guess the title says more about the theme, than I could do...]
6 - X-Girlfriend ay... what do you think is the theme of this song? Right! Mariah sings about an ex-girlfriend of her boyfriend. It's another R'n'B song, danceable and with a little bored Mariah Carey... Not really good, but also not really bad
7 - Heartbreaker Remix Also the title 'Heartbreaker' may sound as if it was the same song as #1, it's very differnt. On the one hand, Missy Elliot meets Mariah Carey in this Remix, on the other hand, it has a completely different style - it's a little bit slower and has very different pronouncation [argh... How should this word be spelled...?????]. I like it more than the original song.
8 - Vulnerability That's just an interlude...
9 - Against All Odds The original song is sung by phil collins, but Mariah did a very pretty job, covering it. Her voice fits perfect into that title and is very volumenous. The simple, but nice melody and the text makes me like it =)
10 - Crybaby Another R'n'B song. And another rapper. But I really like it, because Mariahs voice is deep and differs from other songs on this cd. Also the rythm and melody is not boring at all...
11 - Did I Do That? Argh... It seems that Mariah has been cloned for this song. It starts with many doubled Mariah' voices and leads into boringness and a hushing voice... As you might see - I really don't like it
12 - Petals Ohh... I love it! This song starts with a few tones of a piano and follows with the introduction of Mariahs voice, which is very, very deep this time. It seems that she was really emotional when she sung it, because the song really reaches my heart =) It is very slow, but very sad...
13 - Rainbow Another interlude...
14 - Thank God I Found You Oh, this song sounds really happy. Joe and Mariah Carey are doing a fine job, singing this lovesong together. Their voices fit very good into the piano-leaded melody. very harmonical, very nice... =)
[cONCLUSION]
Huh... I made it until here. Unbelievable... I hope, you nearly understood what I tried to say. In conclusion, I like 'Rainbow', not only because Mariah Carey is my favourite singer, but because it is not boring. Some really wonderful ballads are my personal sunshine =) and some R'n'B' songs are very danceable. I'd say it is not the best cd from Mariah, but one of the better ones. Today, you might get it from ebay for just a few bucks [sorry, but I REALLY don't know the british price...].

Advantages: The album cover does make for interesting discussions about the decline in the faith of pop divas Disadvantages: The quality of the songs, perhaps? Still, the album cover’s supposed to keep your mind off all that.
