Smiling Roger's Darkest hour
Review of Final Cut, The [Remastered] - Pink Floyd by cutnrun

Advantages: Well written
Disadvantages: self indulgent

...The Final Cut is not the best introduction to Pink Floyd as it is essentially a Roger Waters solo album. Having parted company with Nick Mason and Richard Wright after the Wall album and tour, there was only David Gilmour left to stop the total control of Pink Floyd was complete. However it backfired sensationally as the future would attest. The songs on this album are very dark and introspective. A topic ranging from what happens to our war heroes (The Fletcher Memorial Home) nuclear holocaust (Two Suns in The Sunset) and personal neurosis (The Final Cut) not exactly a laugh a minute. David Gilmour’s contributions are very slight apart from the rocky Not Now John (British workers apathy), which is so at odds with the rest of the album apart from the lyrics, it has Gilmours stamp of class throughout. Elsewhere he only has a few... Read review

I Am A Funkadelic
Review of Funkadelic [Remastered] - Funkadelic by Hoosecow

Advantages: Like nothing youve ever heard.
Disadvantages: Little in the way of song structure.

...The first Funkadelic album. The entire album was recorded in a few days and is largely improvisational. It follows the typical George Clinton line-up: A huge band of organists vocalists and guitarists all adding their own little stamp over a funky backbeat. All the seeds of Parliament/Funkadelic are here. Experimentation, Clintons long introductions, talk of outer space, and many sexual references as expected. Blues, funk and pyschadelia influences are all here. You can hear Eddie Hazel's Hendrix influenced guitar, carrying the torch in the year of Jimis death, yet he seems to have not yet quite found his own sound. I find it reassuring to see how much this guitarist had improved and diversified over a few albums from this to say his solo work. I think if you like one track from this album you will like them all. Some more organised than... Read review

Two Lost Sould Swimming in a Fish Bowl
Review of Wish You Were Here (Special Edition) - Pink Floyd by AP80

Advantages: Fantastic, Cohesive Album
Disadvantages: Ummmmmm

...Whilst maybe not achieving the public acclaim of dark side of the moon, the album Wish You Were Here is my favourite Pink Floyd album, and possibly even my favourite album of all time! The album was first released back in the days of vinyl in 1975 following recording at the famous Abbey Road studios, but a digitally re-mastered version was made in 1992 and is produced by EMI. This album features the more familiar line-up of the later-days Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett having previously left the band following a bit of a breakdown. The song-writing by Waters and Gilmour is superb throughout the album. Many albums may have their standout tracks, but it is indeed a rare animal where all the tracks are this good. The album opens with the epic Shine on you crazy Diamond part 1 (you soon learn the Floyd love producing multiple part tracks... Read review
