Fuel. Real heavy, and a good start to the cd. Gets boring, but the chorus is DEAD nice. A good song overall, but I wish he wouldn't say "OHHHH YEAH YEAH", thats sounds rubbish! 8/10

Devil's Dance. hmmmmmm, a typical Metallica tune, good but not really that amazing. A bit dull too. 7/10
The Unforgiven ][. Right, you may remember on the black album there was unforgiven, well this is a heavier version, and it sounds better in my opinion. It's deeper amd louder. Great lyrics and tune. 10/10

The Memory Remains. Really damn good. Stupidly enjoyable tune, I love the lyrics and the heavy yet melodic tune. A corker of a song, and I havn't said "cool" yet... 10/10
Better Then You. No, this sucks quite a bit. Not a good song, but it gets better when it goes fast. Not up to their normal standards. 4/10
Slither. Good song, the normal stuff. I enjoyed it, but nothing to make it stick out really. Hard to say more then that really. It does REALLY improve 2 minutes or so into it though, so thats why I'm gonan give it a decent grade. 8/10
Carpe Diem Baby. Crap title! It's a good song though, a bit softer with some really nice bits, great singing, and tune. A first class tune. Better then half the stuff on the cd. 9/10
Bad Seed. Heavy song again, cool guitar riffs, and a damn good rythem. Really enjoyable, it it kicks ass to boot. 8/10
WHere the Wild Things Are. A slower one, not really all that awesome, but the enjoyable never the less, it does have some very cool bits in it though. 7/10
Prince Charming. Another Heavy tune, with a little guitar solo thingy at the start. Sounds like it came out of the late 80's, but I like it. You may disagree, but I think it sounds guns n rose (ie). 8/10
Low Mans Lyric. Is there no end to Hetfeilds singing talent. nope. A really nice easy tune. Relaxing as hell, well sung, and well played. Nice tune. Some bits of it are utterly great, and hetfields singing is gob smacking, HE CAN DO HEAVY AND SOFT!!!!!!!!
Attitude. No, this is utterly pants, corny. NO NO NO NO. 2/10
Fixxer. A nice song too finish on. Sounds nice etc. Can't be bothered saying more then that. 8/10
Ok, not as good as Load, most defiently, but still a rather good cd. I didn't notice it's short comings until I listened to Load! Buy it, but only after the really great Metallica cds! Overall cd rating... 8/10
Advantages: It's new Metallica material Disadvantages: It's not that great
...album would not be called Re-Load or Reloaded or anything Load. Oh well. The first track, Fuel, is a good tune but I don’t really get the lyrics, they just seem to be randomly connected words. The Memory Remains is better though, a lot better. Marianne Faithful provides guest vocals, which adds a bit of variety to the standard Metallica sound, and the variety continues with Devil’s Dance. This track has Kirk seemingly using as many whammy pedals ... ...II is also a good song, not as good as the original but then The Unforgiven is never likely to be bettered. After this the band go through the motions and do a ‘tallica by numbers until they get to Where the Wild Things Are. A stunning track that mixes gentle guitar parts with crushingly loud parts. Low Man’s Lyric sees Metallica do Mama Said II and like the other sequel on the album it’s good, but not as good as the original. Finally Fixxxer is ...

Advantages: metallica produce yet another classic album Disadvantages: rubbish artwork, lack of lyrics again
This album has several brilliant Metallica songs on it.
The best of the CD are 'Devils Dance', 'Prince Charming', 'Fuel', 'Better than you' and 'Unforgiven 2'.
Metallica brilliantly mix hard rock classics with the storng ballads such as unforgiven 2, this is an absolutely classic track, even better, IMO than the first Unforgiven and that says something as that is a classic song.
All 13 tracks are very good, the only exception in my opinion is ...

Advantages: Better Than Load Disadvantages: Too many fillers
There was a deep suspicion about this album right from the off, as it was written at the same time as "Load" and could therefore be regarded as rejected material. The band vehemently denied this of course, claiming that the two records are vastly different, and I have to say I broadly agree with them, and feel that this is better than the last release.
There are several excellent tracks - "Fuel" (real old-style monster riff), single "The Memory ... ...I think her contribution detracts slightly from the overall power of the song. It's significant that "Fade To Black" is mentioned in the lyrics as it is fairly reminiscent of that track), "Devil's Dance", (definitely not a dance track!) "Better than You" (turns into a bit of a stonker after a scratchy start), "Slither", "Carpe Diem Baby", and "Prince Charming" are the best of the bunch.
Even the "fillers" are better than on "Load" - "Bad Seed", ...

Advantages: Fuel is a brilliant song Disadvantages: Some very bad songs
I have downloaded a few (three or four) Metallica songs from napster, and really liked them so I decided to buy an album. I was recommended to buy 'reload', however I couldn't find it in any shops. Luckily I was in London and decide to go to Tower Records, under the illsion that they would have it. And they did, so I bought it for the huge price of £16.49 (which I thought was sooo much), I bought it dispite the huge sum of money needed to pay for ... ...I got home, and I was eager to stick the CD in my CD player but thought (consideratly) that people in my house wouldn't appreciate it if I played metal music at 2AM. So I slept, woke, ate, during this time i am getting more and more desperate to listen to my CD. So I put it in my CD player, and hear one of the songs I had downloaded (I'm singin along), then the next song comes on, and the next, and the next. I was very disappointed with the 'next' ...

Advantages: Good riffs and solos. at 1 hour 16 you get a lot for your money Disadvantages: A couple of disappointing tracks
Despite criticism from cynical Metallica fans I rate this as one of the best Metallica albums. The album is a departure from their heavier, more aggressive sound on albums like 'And Justice for All' but as an album in its own right it is still very good. The best tracks are The Memory Remains, Carpe Diem Baby, Bad Seed and of course The Unforgiven II. The Unforgiven II is my personal favourite, combining good lyrics and a solo that is up there with ...

Advantages: A return to form, but with better production Disadvantages: None
album, and thinking of 'Load' and 'Re-load,' I think I may well have just pulled an 'Ah, well? so what,' face, with a slight shrug to go with it. But the bird in question (actually, it was my brother-in-law, and I think he would be quite mad to know that I referred to him as a bird, so I will drop that), said it was a return to the old stuff, allegedly.
I set sail for YouTube to check out the new single, 'The Day that Never comes,' and I was dumbstruck, awe-struck, thunderstruck? heck, all kinds of 'struck,' in fact! I fell in love with it immediately and thought if the rest of the new album was half as good I would be a very happy bunny. The day for the album's - 'Death Magnetic' - release did finally come and I purchased my copy in HMV for a lovely £9.99.
It took me a while to make up my mind about this album, though: I liked it, but ...
Advantages: Nothing but another album Disadvantages: Nothings new in this album thats bad
complete your Metallica Collection. If you're a first time Metallica fan, go for "Master of Puppets", "The Black Album" or "Load." They contain the essence of all the songs on "Death Magnetic" anyway. ...
Advantages: Metallica are legends Disadvantages: The drumming sounds like it was recorded in a kitchen with saucepans
I anticipated this release for the longest time. Metallica are legends, the mere mention of a new album was enough to get me very excited indeed.
Let's face it Load was average, Re-Load was naff bar 4 tracks but Metallica had more than redeemed themselves with S&M and the 2 new tracks on S&M rocked. Then the great I Dissapear from the MI2 Soundtrack plus a great gig with old material. All this meant St Anger was going to own, big style.
But then it went wrong, I heard St. Anger (single) and liked it, it wasn't great but OK. Surely the album would be better?. It wasn't, a few tracks stand out namely St. Anger, Frantic and The Unamed Feeling all now released as singles. The other tracks simply do not cut it.
Metallica have taken a step back yes, but in going back they have also gone astray from what made them great. This album is ...
Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Jason Newsted (bass); Lars Ulrich (drums). Additional personnel: Marianne Faithfull (vocals); Bernardo Begalli (violin); David Miles (hurdy-gurdy); Jim McGillveray (percussion). Producers: Bob Rock, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich. Recorded at The Plant Studios, Sausilto, California between May 1995 and February 1996 and from July to October 1997. "Fuel" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. "Better Than You" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. When Metallica recorded 1996's LOAD, the studio sessions were fruitful enough for the band to put out two records. A year and a half later, RELOAD is the inevitable follow-up. Stretching beyond Metallica's speed metal roots, RELOAD is a continuation of the experimentation that dismayed many old fans and welcomed in many new ones. As a result, many Metallica firsts are reached on their eighth album. Some anomalies include recruiting the legendary Marianne Faithfull to contribute backing vocals on "The Memory Remains" and the addition of hurdy-gurdy and violin to the mix of the wistful "Low Man's Lyric." Throughout all this experimentation, Metallica still plays hard and fast, particularly on the metal groove of "Fuel" and the relentless pounding of "Where The Wild Things Are," (a title borrowed from children's author Maurice Sendak). Metallica continues to reinvent itself in a genre where mediocrity is always just around the corner.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (12/11/97, pp.75-76) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...more influenced by bluesy rock & roll than by any '90s trend....strongly rooted in the group's apocalyptic metal sound....The biggest change is an increased emphasis on rhythm..." Musician (2/98, p.83) - "...greasy, driving, full of fat grooves, lyric and rhythmic hooks, and sonic curveballs....captures one of rock's greatest bands at its peak..." Entertainment Weekly (11/21/97, p.136) - "...the boys are back in frown, gnarling their way through bristly thrashers and slithery ballads recorded during and after the LOAD sessions. RELOAD continues their journey into stripped-down maturity while toying with fresh melodic textures..." - Rating: B
