Love them or loathe them the men in black go on. From the opening aural assault of Fuel to the dying embers of Fixxxer this is yet another Metallica classic. You’ve got full on Hendrix tinged rock (Fuel), grinding sludge (The Memory Remains), epic power ballads (The Unforgiven II) and classic metal (Better Than You).
And that sums Metallica up. They are no longer confined to the limitations of the thrash genre. In fact, its almost undeniable that they’re now creating the next generation’s classic rock. James Hetfield growls and solos with guts and passion while KirkHammett whips out his wah frenzied lead lick with kamikaze abandon, over the legendary Ulrich/Newstead granite rhythms. It just goes to show, metal lives.
