Advantages: the singles Disadvantages: no Groovejet
I used to fancy Janet Ellis. Every Monday and Thursday teatime I was glued to the screen watching “Blue Peter”. Maybe it was the way she handled sticky-backed plastic and toilet rolls. Or maybe it was the gentle stroke she gave George the tortoise as she put him in his cardboard box for the winter. Who knows?
Alas, the relationship was doomed to failure before it even began – I was 8 years old after all. Such is the cruelty of ... ...and Caron Keating took over.
All of which is a slightly laborious introduction to an op about Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s debut solo album (or “Shopie” Ellis-Bextor as Ciao would have us believe!).
BRIEF HISTORY OF SHOPIE
After emerging from between Janet’s legs (there’s a thought!), Sophie’s early life was spent making numerous appearances on children’s TV wearing stupid clothes for the benefit of “Before ...

Advantages: good for a first album, relaxing Disadvantages: middle songs a bit dull, voice doesn't change much
Sophie Ellis Bextor is a 20 something year old singer. She used to be a model and if you look back you will probably see her in magazines, but she first hit the music scene with her song 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' with Spiller. This song had huge competition as to whether it was going to beat Posh Spice in the charts and luckily enough it did. It was a catchy song and I wondered if she would sing again and then in 2001 she released her first ... ...something like that and ever since then she has been successful. When saying Sophie first hit the music scene with Spiller I mean as a solo artist. She was in fact in a group called the audience but they weren't well known, so they broke up. They did however release some songs.
I wasn't a huge fan of the song 'Take Me Home' when I first heard it because Sophie has a strange music sond it is very old fashioned and she dresses in 50's style too, so ...

Pop's Bextor Box Review ofRead My Lips - Sophie Ellis-Bextorby
Popalot
Advantages: Lots of quality songs/all singles released inlcuded on the album Disadvantages: You have to be in the mood for it
Hay listeners or should i say viewers, sophie's album is the most colourful piece of music i have heard in ages!! the aristocratic lady of pop burst onto our scenes as the daughter of the blue peter presenter of our parents generation. yep thats right her mum was on tv in the 60's. she has her own unique approach and the tracks are sooo addictive. if you like camden north london, then sophie's your girl. i say this because like the area, her album ... ...was the first solo artist in ages to break the mould of the blonde babe in the music world with her natural dark brunette hair and cleopatra make-up. let me explain sophie's music story in my track by track breakdown: 1. murder on the dancefloor. 9/10 a nice floor filler for the cheesey clubs and for the young ones. original and gets you grooving. 2. take me home. 8/10 only drawback is a bit repetetive but otherwise ok. 3. lover. 10/10. a very sexy ...

Advantages: Powerful Pop that packs a punch Disadvantages: The slow Songs let the album down
...which reeks of second-class pop, Read My Lips is a giggling orgy, a triumphant scream, a Technicolor showcase of songs that are as disposable as tissues but feel as essential as oxygen.
Opener “Take Me Home shimmers down to the last sequin, while Get Over You is more remarkable than anywhere over the rainbow, it shimmers and shines and it would put the Emerald City to shame. Take me home, was the first single taken from this album, was denounced ... ...racehorse or a snail.
Read my Lips is never going to be a classic, but it’s still a worthy addition to your CD rack.
