...This is not about the University of Reading as a whole, just about the hall of residence that I am currently staying in, which is called Childs Hall. I honestly can't remember which Halls I selected on the accommodation form, but I said that I wanted catered hall, and would quite like a sink, so this is where I was placed. The first and most important thing I have to say about Childs is that it is HUGE. Not so much in building size, but in student numbers. There are around 500 students living here, which means it is a very daunting place, especially for a fresher like myself. The dining hall especially is daunting, it is a 400 seater place, so resembles something like an ornate aircraft hanger! Not exactly the cosiest of places.. Advantages: Great Library, now i'm at a London Uni i miss it so much, my friend even goes back to it all the time
Disadvantages: Remember this is not even a city so city lovers beware

...Well i graduated in July 2000 and this a review of my time there of the things i learned. It is not really about the academic side - i'm sure u can look at 'The Times' League table for that... Academic - great library, none of the London University libraries come close (tho this may be becaos they tend to be specialised) - huge scenic campus - many eateries on campus - new ISMA centre is stte of the art - many lecturers are authors of core texts (& they WILL make that known) - IT facilities are good but best to go to a hall with ethernet connection Accomodation A huge number of Reading students live in the halls. When u have made up your mind make sure u submit the accomodation form early to secure a good hall. Well i guess i'm writing as someone who enjoys the creature comforts & did not fancy any of the prison cells... Read review

...It would seem over the last few months I've spent almost as much time staying in Hotel rooms as I have in my own flat, which can prove rather costly. One of my more recent excursions was to the Novotel in Friar Street in reading. Now being as how I only live in Basingstoke, getting a hotel for the night in Reading might seem a little bit pointless, but as it was my leaving do from work it seemed a cheaper and simpler option than trying to get home. That said, once all the little extra bits and pieces are added on it soon mounts up and what seemed like a good idea at the time, was perhaps a little too close to home to justify. As I'd decided upon the need to book myself a hotel room I paid a visit to the Novotel website where I managed to secure the room for a reasonable price.
