Advantages: Great lyrics, catchy tunes, excellent vocals Disadvantages: Probably would only appeal to country music fans

Real Fine Place is a brilliant album by an phenomenally talented artist. Sara Evans is a Missouri-born country singer, she has been a huge name in contemporary country music for a good few years now, and this album shows you exactly why! She has a beautiful voice - powerful, heartfelt and soulful. There's enough 'kick' in her music to make you sing along, but enough country to make it very clear that she hasn't forgotten her roots and original influences.
I can quite honestly say that I don't think there's a bad song on this album. Sara sings honestly about heartbreak, infidelity, dreams, happiness, pain, and a million and one other subjects that you can relate to. The stand-out tracks, I think, are Coalmine, Real Fine Place To Start, Cheatin', You'll Always Be My Baby, Missin' Missouri and These Four Walls, but the rest are all high-quality and all are good in their own way.
The artwork on this album is nothing overly exceptional - unless you're a fan of Sara Evans or country music in general, it's unlikely this album would jump off the shelf at you - however I've still marked the album as 5/5 because this is the only negative point I can think of regarding this album, and I doubt many people by CDs purely for the packaging!
Overall I'd definitely recommend this album, particularly if you're a fan of LeAnn Rimes or Faith Hill's style of new country music. Sara Evans really is an amazing solo artist, and this album is top-rate.

Recording information: Starstruck, Nashville, Tennessee (2005). On 2005's REAL FINE PLACE, country singer Sara Evans kicks things off with the twangy, upbeat "Coalmine," an allusion (intentionally or not) to the great Loretta Lynn. Rather than being a coalminer's daughter, however, Evans is a coalminer's girlfriend, offering a playful update of a classic country theme. Although Evans shows an allegiance to her rural roots, she's also unapologetically taken with pop/rock arrangements, as on the uplifting "Real Fine Place to Start," the soaring "New Hometown," and the nostalgic "Roll Me Back in Time" (penned by Sheryl Crow and her frequent collaborator, John Shanks). Whether she's keeping it country or venturing into pop territory, Evans is a charismatic performer, and REAL FINE PLACE is an ideal showcase for her talent.
