Charlie (Jennifer Lopez) finally meets her perfect man, Kevin Fields (Michale Vartan). A few months into their relationship, Kevin introduces Charlie to his mother, Viola (Jane Ford), who is having a meltdown following the ending of her TV career.
When Kevin proposes to Charlie, Viola is determined to break up the engagement, for fear of loosing her son. Helped by her assistant Ruby (Wanda Sykes), Viola attempts to get rid off Charlie, by coming across as an overbearing mother-in-law wanting control of the wedding.
Once Charlie realises Viola's plans, she begins to fight back, with Kevin remaining unaware of the feud between the two.
The plot is predictable, however this can be expected of a romantic comedy. Special mention must go to Wanda Sykes, who despite a small role, has the best one-liners in the film. It is ...
isn't magic they do a decent enough job.
Jane Fonda, while having not been in a film for some 15 years, does a fabulous job of being the mother-in-law from hell. I wouldn't be surprised to see her in a few more things after this.
The real surprise of the film was Wanda Sykes, who plays Ruby. I'd never heard of her previously but a lot of the funny moments in the film involved her. She was pure comedy.
The storyline is somewhat predictable, these sorts of films usually are. It was a good fun light-hearted film. I'm not sure it was worth the £6.70 it cost me to watch it but I'd definitely recommend seeing it at some point if romantic comedies are your type of film. In fact, if you don't fancy seeing it in the cinema, the DVD is due for release on 26/09/05.

to have another nervous breakdown turning to drink as she thinks Kevin is to good for this "temp" he is a docor and could do much better. Viola does everything that she can to try and stop the wedding moving in with them and tormenting Charly when Kevin is away on work. Taking over all the wedding plans, but with the help of her friends Charly gets her revenge. Anway in the end when one of Violas ex motherinlaws turns up just before the wedding and Charly sees how badly they treat each other 30 years down the line she decides to call of the wedding she has had enough. But Viola has a change of heart they make up and live happily ever after.
This film has some really funny scenes and some that can get a bit confusing as I am never quite sure if something is really happening or if it is in their imagination (you see they both have ...
