Advantages: Infinitely customizeable, easy to use, limitless potential, amazing value Disadvantages: Battery life isn't great, video camera is poor, volume rocker too large
Ok, first of all, to anybody of a younger age reading this, the title of the review is a play on the popular Bonnie Tyler hit, "Holding out for a Hero". I do not advocate the practise of all night love-ins with any telecommunications devices.
Anyway, here we have the HTC Hero, the difficult third album to follow up the cult favourites, the Magic and the Touch. This phone is being touted as an iPhone killer, and many reviews will be written with only this in mind. I, however, will try and judge the phone on its own merits before squaring it up to Apple's most recent effort. I bought this after several happy years with the Nokia N series phones, so this is my first experience with the highly praised Android operating system.
LOOKS
Most noticeable on the Hero is its distinctly superhero-esque "chin". Opinion is divided ...

The HTC Hero
I test and review a lot of mobile phones, but in a mobile phone market dominated by Apple, Blackberry, Samsung and Nokia, I can't help but have a soft spot for HTC; I think it is a British thing, a love for the underdog? It looked a lot like its predecessor the T-Mobile G1, with that Jimmy Hill like chin. This was a bad start for me; I love the design of all of HTC's handsets, except one? the T-Mobile G1, so I wasn't expecting ...

Advantages: Sutcliff's wonderful prose; Keeping's exciting illustrations Disadvantages: Not a source for serious historians
So, here I am, writing a review of a 36-year-old school textbook, a work that has, in all likelihood, been out of print for many years. Why? Because Rosemary Sutcliff's "Heroes and History" is a quite extraordinary book, and it would be dreadfully unfair to deny others the chance to understand what it is that makes it so.
From the moment you catch sight of "Heroes and History"'s vivid purple cover, with its depiction of a fully armed warrior in full cry, you get a frisson of excitement, a feeling that this book is going to be something rather special, and so it proves. The book contains chapters on ten of Britain's greatest Heroes, but restricts itself to those who have at least some grounding in reality (hence the book's title) - there is no place for the likes of Beowulf here. There is a fair geographical spread of Heroes, as can ...
